Does anyone have a guesstimate as to how much time it might take to drive from Hanover (Lucea) to Kingston? I wonder if my mister should plan for a 4-5 hour drive or longer....

Hey Ellis , if you leave @ about 5 am or earlier it takes approx 4 hours. My cousin, brother and I used to make that drive all the time but he used to take back roads. Do you plan on taking the highway at all because now that will cut your time considerably.

Thanks Philly, that's good to know! Yes, I think he'll take the highway...I'm gonna tell him to plan it out ahead of time and ask around about how to get there the fastest. I don't think he'll have a problem getting up earlier to get moving since he's an early bird anyway but I'll definitely mention the earlier, the better. Hopefully he brings someone who has been before so he has help navigating 'town' once he gets there. I also am thinking of suggesting to him to try and get the police certificate part done before his 1:30 appt to drop the form off at the embassy since the police department that handles certs closes at 3:00.

This stuff stresses me out....I just worry about things going wrong and him having to travel all that way again cause he didn't get something done right. It seems this would be so much easier if he could read....I love him no matter what but this is the biggest challenge thus far in our relationship. When I'm not there to help him, I just stress and hope that someone there will help him.

C went before to get his police report. I am not sure how long it took him but he did get both done in the same day. He did have to go back to pick it up a few days later though if I remember correctly. It only took about a minute for him to drop off the DS-230 because the guy who takes them was walking back into the embassy from his lunch break. Security called him over and he took it in with him so C didn't even have to go into the embassy.

....when it hurts to look back and you're scared to look ahead LOOK beside you and I'll be there.....

There comes a point in your life when you realize who matters, who never did, who won't anymore... and who always will.

So, don't worry about people from your past, there's a reason why they didn't make it to your future.

Okay, that makes me feel better....he should be able to accomplish both at once. It's no problem that he'll have to go back to pick up the report but I just start imagining what if he had to go back 3 times?! What a hassle!

So, are you even able to get any work done this week? Only tomorrow left!

Well, they are just gonna have to wait if you can't get all that done! It'll still be there when you get back and won't go anywhere unless someone else wants to finish it. Why does it seem like some employers do their best to stress you out as much as possible before you take time off??

Ellis, I know how you feel he should be fine at that time of day as traffic is not as heavy. Kingston traffic is no joke at the am. and p.m rush hour. When I am home with hubby I have to drop him off and pick him up from work so I can use the car during the day for errands and if you don't know the back roads and taking the main arterial roads its a hot mess trust me!.

When my hubby went for the police certificate they actually mailed it to him within 3 business days, they didn't give it to him the same day. Were you expecting to recv it the same day?

Don't stress he will be fine just have faith and hopefully a friend to help navigate LOL. I know its easy to say don't stress and I have been stressing all day  over the immunization record which no one can seem to to get faxed over :(

Mister gonna work it out  you'll see!

That day I'm just going to have to PRAY! But it's true, I need to have faith that he's capable of doing this....he does tend to manage even without reading skills.

I knew he could either get 3 day or 21 day turnaround on the certificate but I'm not as stressed about him having to go back and get it since he'll kinda know his way around from the 1st trip and he won't be on major time constraints like the day he has the appt....he'll just have to get there before the office closes. I wondered about the option to have it mailed but seeing as how he hasn't even received his packet # 3 (and it doesn't seem like he's going to), I don't have much faith in the mail system...especially in his area.

This is why I love this thread. I was gonna have Steven make a special trip to Kingston (from Negril) to request the police record, but now I see that it is more common to request that at the same time you drop off the DS-230.

So, from Dillon's posts, it seems that you can't just drop off the DS-230. You need to get an appointment to do so first. Am I understand that correctly? And if so, do you have to pay the $131 to schedule that appointment?

Ells...what in the world would make you think that he would not be able to efficiently navigate in Kingston? I mean what was he doing before he met you? I think we women tend to take the nurturing to the extreme and worry ourselves to death for no reason. He will be just fine...trust me. The only thing that may be a problem would be filling out the paperwork, and I'm sure he already knows how to get around his deficiency in that aspect.

Even if he never stepped a foot in Kingston, he will manage. Let him be a man darling. LOL

Yes, write to the consularkingst@state.gov address & put in the subject line that you want to schedule an appt to drop off the DS-230 & your case #. This is the addy for the NIV (non-immigrant visa) vs. the kingstonivinfo@state.gov address for IV and they respond very quickly to inquiries....much quicker than the other from what many of us have seen. You don't have to pay the $131 yet....that is for the actual interview. You have to bring your receipt of payment along with your DS-156, etc. to the interview. You won't have to do that until a little bit later.

You're right Jawi....you are! He's just never been to Kingston and can't read signs so I stress myself out. He'll handle everything fine though and I just have to remember that. He'll have to bring a friend to help him fill out whatever paperwork is needed for the police certificate but aside from that, he's set.
