What is the process after my interview and i've been approved? I hired a lawyer, who after being paid has become MIA and I need to know the next steps...

I will have my interview on March 12, and if all goes well, plan to leave Canada March 23. We will be married in the courthouse on March 27th. What do I do from there? I know I have to get an adjustment of status, but am not sure what steps to take. Also, if I want to expedite the process so I can begin to work faster, how is that possible? Thanks for any info!!

We went back to the apartment and, um, celebrated!!!! I highly recommend it. Then we took a nap because neither of us slept the night before.

It is common for attorneys to become MIA after they receive your money, it is because there is NOTHING they really can do anyway.

Make your travel plans, come on down and get married and then file for the AOS. You don't need an attorney for that either.

After hiring a lawyer who's now MIA, I'd be making a written complaint to the College of Lawyers and making a complaint about this individual and trying to get your money back...

As far as what to do after your marriage, you have to get a copy of your marriage certificate, and start filling in papers to apply for an Adjustment of Status. You can include for the one price, an application for work authorization and travel (advanced parole it's called), prior to getting your greencard.

Best bet would be to start looking at the forms, and guides above and read the questions and see what you're going to need to file these papers. Don't plan on leaving the country until you have AP or your GC, or you won't be allowed back in again.

You can expedite the process unless your husband/wife is being deployed. Volunteer, get a library card, learn to cook if you don't know already hehe....

Don't forget to visit and post in the Canada forum! I haven't seen you post there. You'll find plenty of topics there to post about. Including missing Tim's. ;)

A good way to minimize your non-working time is to get your AOS package ready now. Then you can mail it off the moment you get your marriage certificate. From the timelimes it looks like EADs are taking about 90 days. Keep in mind that is only an estimate (although usually a good one).
