But is that the worse that could really happen? Being charged the difference if caught? I rather take the chance of being able to spend less and finding out we have to pay the full price than paying the one way price and not trying.
Actually, worst is that you lose the half of the ticket price that you actually paid for the unused return (having actually done that once).

Tried-and-true win-win approach.

No, BowieChick was right about the worst case scenario.

It truly must be with the help of divine intervention that after entering into this well-defined bureaucratic process, we were blessed with the expected outcome within the predefined timeline. Praise deities!

So, is it only for flights originating in the US where you get more hassle with security etc. when you fly one way instead of round trip? Especially with how close to the travel date these are being purchased....I hadn't seen any of those considerations mentioned.

Yeah, is there a time frame in between the outgoing and return ticket? I know with the visa waiver program you're limited to a certain amount of time (3 months I think?) before you have to leave, and this is the same time frame with the k1 visa (you have 90 days to get married right?). Should the return be within those 90 days or what?

I flew from Dublin Ireland with American Airlines. I paid 200 uk pounds one way. I got my dad to drive me 90 miles to Holyhead got ferry and spend the night in Dublin. It worked out alot cheaper then flying from Manchester Airport. Aer Lingus sells one way tickets and code shares with AA. I booked online but also check out www.kayak.co.uk

I will definately be buyng a return ticket.

With my interview date looming I have just started checking prices for flights to Dallas, £420 return and £725 one way so it is a no brainer, might try to get my taxes back for the return flight. I always go AA and they are the cheapest, but you cant change your ticket as some other airlines, if you get the deal online so you cant cancel and pay to reschedule at a later date unless you pay for a more expensive ticket

My fiance booked a round trip from London on Continental. He came Sept 30 and the return is mid March, so timing was not an issue. Pick a return on a cheap day in the cheap season for the lowest possible fare. Experiment with return dates to find the least expensive option since you don't plan to use the return.

Hi all! Long time no speak.

The reason behind this is that a single journey costs about twice as much as a round trip which I assume is because with business travel etc the journey may be open ended so they know that people will pay it whatever the price. Thanks for your help!

I found a one way ticket that was cheaper than the round trip. But Now I almost wish that I would have booked a round trip - going back maybe a year later... The reason is because the tickets to US from Sweden are cheaper than the tickets to Sweden from US. But I don't know how it is in your case. If you are planning to go home and visit after a year in the US than you might want to book a round trip, but it is just a suggestion...

Good luck with everything!

Buy the cheaper ticket which will be round trip.

And there is a very good good reason to get the round trip anyway.

Just in case you two decide not to get maried. She has her ticket home.

I booked our tickets a fw days ago and was told I needed round trip for my Fiancee because some countries supposedly won't let the foreign spouse through without a return ticket. We will be going through 3 countries on our way back. So who knew....I didn't...glad the American Airlines reservationist let me know this as she said she wasn't supposed to tell me to buy the "cheaper rond trip ticket"....lol

Oh that (in bold) is so wrong.

We bought a round trip ticket for my husband because it was cheaper. Period. The return date didn't matter and I told the travel agent that. So I said that date didn't matter, I just wanted the best price. He arrived in March 2007 and the return date was for April 2007. We never did anything about it.

Hi all! Long time no speak.

I know this is a bit early as we're still waiting on NOA2, but I'm just curious as to what other people did in this situation... When booking your ticket to the US following the interview being successful and the visa being approved (fingers crossed for when it comes around!) would there be any implications of buying a return ticket and then cancelling the return journey? I am aware that this may be a really bad idea but I'm generally just curious.

I purchace my tickets online round trip and one way , A round trip to Chongqing China from Orlando Florida cost about 1,700 a one way ticket cost about 980 . If I go to the airline website like delta of eastern the cost is much higher like twice the price or even 4 times the price . If you go to sites like cheap air .com or cheap tickets .com and book the tickets about 2 or 3 months befor you need to go then you get the best price . Shop around and you can find the best deals for the flights you need.

I bought a round trip ticket and never showed up for my return flight, no one ever asked me about it and theoretically speaking you could enter the US as legal resident and then fly back the next day if you wanted to. Entering the US doesn't mean you can never leave and the questions that you get about how long you are staying and do you have a return ticket have now officially stopped because you have a visa! Do what is cheapest. Immigration has officially lost interest in you, unless you spend more time out of the US then in it. They don't seem to like that very much.
