In a charity race Saturday, more than 5,000 runners ran two miles to a downtown Raleigh Krispy Kreme shop, ate a dozen glazed doughnuts each and returned to North Carolina State University in less than an hour.

That's 2,400 calories and 144 grams of fat consumed while burning about 400 calories during the run.

The student-run Krispy Kreme Challenge raised about $35,000 for the North Carolina Children's Hospital.

The event began on a dare among college friends in 2004. Then-freshman Ben Gaddy won the first race by beating nine guys in about a half-hour.

I think they are defeating their purpose. Soon they won't be running...anywhere.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

I was once locked in a bar and not allowed to leave until me and 250 people kicked 50 kegs

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

12 donuts after a 2 mile run... if you're running a half marathon you might burn that off... But bread products aren't the best thing to eat for that type of exercise. Probably a lot of farting followed by diarrhea.

If they are young, and they only do it for a stunt, I can't see it having any repercussions, beyond the immediate. Odd thing to do though.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

I betcha it was a Hasher that started it. I know of many (worldwide) that kick off a 5 miler with a beer or 2 or 3. Then they kill a beer or 2 DURING the run, and finish up with songs and more beer.

Look up Hash House Harriers. The beauty is that there is no pressure and it is worldwide. I hashed (ran!) in Rome upon my first arrival in Italy and felt right at home.

Maybe it wouldn't be the best thing for them, but for any spectators...

Who can even eat a dozen donuts at once anyway? Two is the max for me. Then I'd still feel awful after eating them.

College students...I remember back in the days since I pretty much was broke, anything that was free or would fill me up I'd eat it.

 I get that concept. But still can't fathom eating 12 donuts, especially not Krispy Kremes. They're like sugar overload with just a couple of them.

Just couldn't stay my @ss away!
