bringing my in-laws to visit

My wife (LPR) and I (USC) would like for her mother and two sisters to be able to visit for a month or two here in the US. Is this possible? My wife's friends who are LPR's keep telling her that the USC can petition on behalf of their in-laws to help them get visitor visas. Her friends tell her that they either have done it or know LPR's who have brought up relatives to visit by doing this (through a USC spouse). I know my wife, as an LPR, can't petition her family to live here permanently until she's a USC. I was just wondering if we can get them here on a visit. Anyone know?

You have not said where her family are from. A tourist visa B1/B2 is given on the merits of the person applying and there is nothing you or your wife can to to make it happen. The person applying for the B1/B2 has to be able to prove strong ties to the home country to show that they will return after the visit. So they would need to show things like property, Job, Bank accounts and family remaining in the home country.

You can give the person applying a letter of support but that in its self will not get them a visa to visit. It is down to them being able to prove they will not remain in the US once there.

Possible, yes.My wife's friends who are LPR's keep telling her that the USC can petition on behalf of their in-laws to help them get visitor visas. This is not exactly accurate information - there is no such petition. Her friends tell her that they either have done it or know LPR's who have brought up relatives to visit by doing this (through a USC spouse). Place to start - US Embassy for the country they are from.
