hello guys..How many months you waited after you received your greencard before you went back to social security to change it into your married name? i really need your input on this. I asked this because the ss told me it would take about 6 months after you got your greencard before immigration will update the status..Thank you so much in advance!!

I do not get the question, SS doesn't have anything to do with the USCIS, but you need evidence, such as your greencard to get a non-restrictive SS card from the USCIS. I like bringing that evidence along with a filled out application to my SS office to not risk using it, they peek at your application, copy your evidence and give it back, and in two weeks or less you get your new card.

Never even heard of a law that requires you to have a SS card, but if you want to work or be claimed as a dependent or an exemption on someone's income tax, you have to have one. This is where the IRS gets involved with your life and your money. Common today to even get a SS card on a newborn baby.
