Timeline

Can pay a few days before the interview, use the CTIC bank in the CTIC bank tower a few blocks from the consulate, they will give a receipt that you then bring to the medical for inclusion in the medical packet, or bring the receipt to the interview.

+1 on CFL, and +7/8 on the Yang family that are recommended there as having apartments for rent very close and very reasonable, as well as being familiar with the process and great local "tour guides" for the visa process.

YES Sir We stayed with the Yangs, I believe it worked out to $25 per night.

Check out Candle for Love. There are more than a few people there who have been burned by Guangzhou.

Exactly, VJ is a general immigrations board covering all countries, CFL is specific to China and will have much more details and posts about dealing specifically with GUZ consulate.
