I had my written drivers test on Tuesday and got chatting to a woman who worked at the DMV who happened to be Scottish...We chatted about the usual stuff like where are you from, how long have you been here etc. said she knew several Brits in the area who were popping over to hers for lunch today and invited me :) I went over, everyone was lovely, and they understood what I was saying !! I was asked if I had made any friends and how was I coping with homesickness....I said I was coping ok and as for friends I hadn't made any yet and that they were the 1st people I had spoken to other than my husband ,his family or his friends..Then it happened...I burst into tears :crying: it'####### me that I've not had any conversations with anyone outside my husbands immediate circle. It was great meeting some new people , but now I'm lonesome. I was probably lonesome before , but I've just been making the best of my situation, just getting on with it really....I bought a new car yesterday , a Dodge Caravan SXT and the guy delivered it this evening, I was alone when it was delivered, it was hard getting excited about it. I miss having friends, I know what to do about it , but developing friendships takes time ...So I'll just keep plugging away. The people I met were nice and understood the immigration thing and I have some numbers now, so I can ring for a chat . I'll have a chat with hubbub about it when he gets in. BTW....although I feel like this, I wouldn't be anywhere else :) confusing huh ?

No...that will improve things, at least I'll get out and meet people. I got myself a volunteer job at the dept of commerce, but I was the only one there and you wouldnt believe how quiet it was. 4 hours of solitaire would finish off anyone, so I quit.

I agree Kim, probably pretty normal..of COURSE you wanna be here, but some of it's tough...you'll get thru it just fine, and sounds like you have a great jump start now on making some new friends..that will go a long way!!! :) M.

just the fact that you are so outgoing and accepted an invitation to a strangers house for a luncheon is a great start! some have a hard time with that but it sounds like you flourished!
