K-3 visa and SSN

I see a lot here about K1s getting their SSN prior to marriage, after marriage, etc, all before AOS. Same apply for K3s? I just was wondering about when elligible for SSN because when I checked on the Social Security Administration web site they make no mention of K visas, but state up front:

"In general, only noncitizens who have permission to work from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) can apply for a Social Security number."

But, we with K visas (K1 and K3) are eligible for SSN even before getting and EAD?

Thanks for the help.

K1 is eligible to get SSN within 76 days of entry. K3 must have EAD or GC.

That makes absolutely no sense, seeing how the K3 has been married more times than not for longer than a year by this time.

Well, according to that, it sounds like the days are numbered for a K-1 to get an SSN prior to marriage (per the OFFICE OF

THE INSPECTOR GENERAL SOCIAL SECURITY ADMINISTRATION).

Makes more sense for a K3 who already has made a commitment in marriage to be eligible. We certainly could use the money with two incomes, in our home as a married couple. The system sure is mixed up.

That makes absolutely no sense, seeing how the K3 has been married more times than not for longer than a year by this time.

This explains why K-1 is eligible without an EAD card:

Well it would help if I had put in the link. :bonk:https://secure.ssa.gov/apps10/poms.nsf/links/0100203500

Exactly what I thought when I applied for my SSN. I need to have EAD first.Sigh.

That makes absolutely no sense, seeing how the K3 has been married more times than not for longer than a year by this time.
