Today I recieved an email from the HR representative explaning that they no longer issure employment verification letters.

Here is what it says

"We no longer handle verifications by phone or fill out any letters in the HR department. To help streamline the employment verification process and ensure that we are using our resources effectively, effective June 1, 2008 a third-party vendor will complete employment and salary verifications.

Please visit VerifyToday website at

Has anyone ever heard of this and had to go thru this site? If so it is acceptable for the K-1 visa?

Thanks!!

An employment verification is employment verification. What you company is doing is becoming more common.

Employment letters are not a mandatory requirement but one of many possibilities... a series of dated paystubs accomplishes nearly the same thing...

moving to consular forum

Outsourcing employment letters? What will they think of next?

Well, it is correct that an employment letter is optional and that check stubs serve the same purpose. Oddly enough, IF you have regular employment, you probably don't need the employment letter.

Just the same, you can try what I did. Write the letter yourself, address it to the consulate (for whatever reason that always impresses people and makes them think they are very important) and write out the letter to say exacly what YOU want it to say, provided it is all true of course. Give this to your boss (or HR) and say "Please type this on letterhead and sign"

Most of these outsourcing decisions regarding verifications are to avoid liability from scum-sucking attorneys who lurk around lloking for a way to suck up some legal fees. So they defer it to someone the attorneys would have a more difficult time filing a lawsuit against. It is called "hardening the target" (yes, they actually discuss these things in board rooms, how to cut off scum sucking attorneys preemptively)

When they see your letter is relatively harmless (and makes them feel important) and they are not likely to draw the attention of scum-sucking attorneys by signing it, they probably will. If not, use check stubs. :)
