This picture of a ready to explode Nadya Suleman was taken eight days before giving birth to the last eight of her fourteen kids.

In 2008, Suleman approached another IVF specialist, Dr. Michael Kamrava. Suleman was permitted to have all the remaining six embryos left over after her previous IVF treatments transferred. The recommended medical guideline limits the number of embryos, for a woman of her fertility profile, to two. On a television interview with Anne Curry, Nadya claimed her reasoning for attempting a sixth successful pregnancy was so that the frozen embryos wouldn't be destroyed. ] Six embryos were implanted and two embryos split into twins, resulting in eight babies. Five fetuses were evident after just one month. When offered the option of selective reduction, she declined.

News of the octuplets caused an international media frenzy. Most public reply has been angry/negative and some even included death threats, which police are investigating. There has been much public discussion about Nadya Suleman's decision to have the octuplets, including a minor protest outside the Suleman home, however Suleman currently lives elsewhere. Many expressed concern that Suleman's decision for more children would burden taxpayers via public support.

The Medical Board of California announced on February 6, 2009 that it was investigating the physician who transferred the embryos in an attempt to substantiate if there was a violation of the standard of care.
