I suppose in some way you could define the act as "domestic violence." After all, the situation involved a husband brutally attacking and killing his wife. However, domestic violence rarely included decapitation or any other bodily dismemberment.

There is absolutely NO excuse for domestic violence. If it's happening, the victim must secretly contact a network that can protect the victim and help the victim find secret housing if needed. Also, the police need to be awre of it and a protection order needs to be filed for, just as this woman did.

Any spouse that is violent needs to immediatley go to anger management as well as personal counseling, and never mind what the other spouse does, or does not, do. It's advisable to move out until emotions are stabilized. There must be absolutely NO alcohol or drug use as well.

Otherwise, it WILL escalate. It does not get better on its own, only worse. This case is domestic violence, just escalated further than most.

I'd love to see, next to the list of all household violence reports in the news, what religion the guy/girl committing the violence is. Are there actual stats or is the muslim offender the only one who's religion is reported? I see the police reports in my area alone and lemme tell ya I have yet to see one muslim name in these reports.

I'd say that yes, murdering your wife is domestic violence at its worst, but to call it that makes it sound acceptable. I'm trying to think of an analogy but having difficulty coming up with a good one. There are many levels of physical pain. From extremely minor to unbearable and excruciating pain that requires high dosages of morphine to tolerate. You can get a paper cut, bump your knee, get a black eye, broken nose, broken bone, stabbed, first degree burns, or at most extreme: sodomized/beaten to a pulp/and slowly tortured. A paper cut or a bump on your knee is what I would say is comparable to domestic violence.

Here is how I classify different violent crimes, going from petty (domestic violence) to pre-meditated murder:

Domestic violence is when you slap your girlfriend in the face, maybe choke her up for a second, or push her down.

Assault and battery is when, instead of slapping your girlfriend, you punch her in the face.

Aggravated assault is when some sort of weapon is involved.

Attempted murder is when the person almost dies.

Pre-meditated homicide

It is more complicated than that though, here is how Michigan law classifies some of the higher end crimes:

Felonious assault - 4 years

Assault with intent to murder - LIFE

Assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder - 10

Torture - LIFE

Assault with intent to maim - 10

Assault against a pregnant individual causing miscarriage, stillbirth, or death to embryo or fetus with intent or recklessness - LIFE

Assault against a pregnant individual resulting in miscarriage, stillbirth, or death to embryo or fetus - 15

Attempted murder - LIFE

Domestic violence wasn't listed but you don't go to jail on a first offense (if you can make the $100 or so bond).

Prominent Orchard Park man charged with beheading his wife

Orchard Park police are investigating a particularly gruesome killing, the beheading of a woman, after her husband — an influential member of the local Muslim community — reported her death to police Thursday.

Police identified the victim as Aasiya Z. Hassan, 37. Detectives have charged her husband, Muzzammil Hassan, 44, with second-degree murder.

"He came to the police station at 6:20 p.m. [Thursday] and told us that she was dead," Orchard Park Police Chief Andrew Benz said late this morning.

Muzzammil Hassan told police that his wife was at his business, Bridges TV, on Thorn Avenue in the village. Officers went to that location and discovered her body.

Muzzammil Hassan is the founder and chief executive officer of Bridges TV, which he launched in 2004, amid hopes that it would help portray Muslims in a more positive light.

The killing apparently occurred some time late Thursday afternoon. Detectives still are looking for the murder weapon.

"Obviously, this is the worst form of domestic violence possible," Erie County District Attorney Frank A. Sedita III said today.

Authorities say Aasiya Hassan recently had filed for divorce from her husband.

"She had an order of protection that had him out of the home as of Friday the 6th [of February]," Benz said.

Muzzammil Hassan was arraigned before Village Justice Deborah Chimes and sent to the Erie County Holding Center.
