The article of course has focused people's anger just where the writer intended, the 'savage muslim'. How sad.

What ordinarily would be a horrible domestic violence crime has now been associated with being muslim and on down the slithery slope to terrorism

Promoting the muslim culture is a separate issue to domestic violence. Domestic violence is at least as prevalent in US society as it is in any other society so this has nothing to do with his being a muslim, nor should it reflect badly on the overall muslim community. This is yet another example of sloppy thinking.

Me thinks beheading is a bit of a muslim twist on the old issue of DV here in the USA. I think it reflects poorly on the 'overall muslim community.'

That's only because of what's been implied from this man's activism.

Given that domestic violence is largely a man on woman thing (though there are examples of women doing it to men which don't get as much attention), I certainly wouldn't suggest that wife-beaters reflect poorly on men overall...

I'm not responsible for what other men do. Muslims aren't either.

Yeah, just a bit.

But as we love to say in the west; "who are we to judge?", especially when we don't know every single fact.

What I am seeing is outrage against Muslim. The person comitting the act is a man - there should be an outrage against men in general. Double standard against Muslim? Not on VJ ;)

American women who met their Muslim spouses on the internet, vacationed in their spouse's country for a week or two once or twice, then sat back in the United States, pining for "my habeeeeeeebeeeeeeeeeee" until he finally stepped foot off the plane is, by far, no experts in the lives of Muslim woman in a Muslim nations. Furthermore, as "habibti" soon learns, you can take a man out of his country, but you cannot take his country out of him.

Because of course it's impossible for any of us to have done any serious study of the muslim world, independent of meeting our husbands

Do these men beat their women? Absolutely. Do they beat them because they're all liquored up and in the mood? No. They do it because they CAN. Do these men kill their women? Yep, they sure do. Why? Honor, and no other reason.

Do men beat and kill their wives everywhere on earth? Yes they do, even when they're not full of booze. Sometimes, it's just for the heck of it, for a wounded sense of pride, for a perceived insult or any number of reasons.

I am outraged against this particular man for what he did to this particular woman. I saw her on CNN and she was very pretty, petite and holding a newborn. This man had no reason to commit such a barbaric act against this woman. Sadly, I hope she was actually dead before being beheaded, because the thought of a human being suffering that while alive is just too much for the mind to grasp.

The intended subtext is quite plain and as someone said earlier its pretty clear the author has sensationalised the story to achieve a certain effect.

In short - what the author wants people to draw from this is that while this man was part of an activist group that (apparently) tries to correct misperceptions about the muslim community, his (alleged) murder of his wife confirms the underlying stereotypes.

Stereotypes that a surprisingly large % of OT VJ posters buy into, despite having foreign spouses. I find that odd. Every country has its stereotype and I am sure none of the spouses fit that type and yet...

FoxNews generally doesn't address the stereotypes of other religions/countries. Except maybe Mexico.
