Wife said, only thing I had to know was "Sí querida", looked that up in a translation dictionary, means, "yes dear".

My USC friends that married Spanish ladies gave me "Ándale", or rather Ándale, Ándale, Ándale said in a loud voice, but my wife said, that is strictly a Mexican word and not part of the classical Spanish language, but gets a laugh if I use it. Means hurry up.

I don't think I can say anything in Claudeth's language, does balut count :blink:

Why would you want a Balut?

San Miguel, or Red Horse helps.

Spent a couple of long nights from the reactions to San Miguel, could not summons the curage to try a Balut, bar-b-qued monkey meat aint too bad.

I still can't speak a lot of Hindi. But I think hearing him talk to his family back in India every weekend has helped me learn a little more over the years but I still don't know too much.

I think the first phrases I tried learning were...

"Mera naam Christina hai"...my name is Christina

"Mujhe tumse pyar hai", or "mein tumse pyar karti hun"...the way to express "I love you" (teehee), learned those a long time ago

"Namaste"...Greetings, of course!

"Aap kaise hai?"...How are you?

"Ishu tum he mere Prabhu"...Jesus You are my Lord(it's been in my VJ siggy forever)

(I hope I am spelling things right, hmmm :unsure: )

But I have learned a lot more over the years. :)

all i remember was when i was 7 years old my stepfather had this pink floyd album and I was in love with it. I learned all the lyrics, but i probably didn't know what they meant :P So probably my first sentence was:

hey you, out there in the cold, getting lonely getting old, can you feel me?

I learned from my Fiancee's Uncle two things before going there.

Pho and Banh xao which is two different foods. The only thing is he had me pronounce them in such a way that everyone there just started laughing and some even would ROFLMAO. I caught on quickly after a couple of times but he had such fun with it that I kept doing it. Usually he would say to me when we were somewhere,"what is your favorite food?"

After time and when me and my fiancee were teaching each other our languages she made me learn to say, "I love you very much," and "You are very beautiful," and has me say them both very often to her. I don't mind as I have taught her a few phrases that and even though I feel guilty a bit I figure that turnabout is fair play.

ja lublu tebya= i love you

ja to*e= me too

ja taksama= me too (in BY)

privet= hi

poka= see you later

spasiba (not sure of the spelling cos of the alphabet change) = thank you

i knew alot more when he was here. i'm terrible at speaking russian/ BY. i can't roll my r's.

That is pretty common, although I allegedly do ok with it. I have the other common pronounciation problem for Americans. I cannot paletize a consonant to save my life. You made me remember another word from my first lesson though - zdrastvuite.

That's funny...and songs are a good way to learn sometimes. I can sing along to parts of Bollywood songs really well, but don't know what all of it means so that's not really too good. :lol: Suj says I pronounce the lyrics very well, but it's b/c I just imitate what I am hearing over and over again.
