hi all ,

i already posted this question in US embassy section but didn't get specific answer so please keep it in MENA ,i think more people here went through issues like that with close minded 3rd world governments .please excuse me i sound little pissed thats because men here can't actually do anything before they join the army thank god they let us go to the restroom with out a permission

i need help from people who went through paper work with US embassy in Cairo specially students

what do i need to get to explain my military status to the embassy (i have nothing right now because i'm still student and my college automatically delay it until i graduate )...... do i need to go to the department of recruitment and ask them or what ...i'm confused i also heard its not necessary as long as i'm student

wouldn't it be much easier if the Egyptian army gave us the choice to join or not :ranting: human rights my foot

hope i dont get arrested for posting this

anyway any help will be appreciated and thank u in advance

If you are postponed from the military...you need the letter stating that. You get it from them (Military)...however, if you are postponed, they say you can not apply for immigration to another country at this time. In other words, you can not apply for an immigrant visa (k3, CR1, etc)....the k1 is a non-immigrant visa so you can apply for it. This was explained to us however, I could be wrong...(if anyone else knows...correct me if I stated it wrong).

I'm not sure what you are applying for K1/K3, etc. So I can't tell you when/whom you submit the letter to. We attached ours with the packet sent to the Embassy prior to our interview.

I was referring to the embassy and when you try to leave @ the airport from Egypt. They most definitely can read and do check.

sorry i thought u were talkin about the military people.

i dont think u care to hear the explanation but i will try to be short

the embassy doesnt really care what my military status is..they just need to see the military certificate because simply if i'm wanted by the army i can't get this certificate but they will continue the paper work as long as i can get it.

at the airport they dont care either what type of visa u traveling on as long as its valid and not fake lol all what u need to get is permission from the department of recruitment i guess ,not a big deal though. (correct me if i'm wrong )

on last thing please,

u said earlier "you can not apply for an immigrant visa (k3, CR1, etc)....the k1 is a non-immigrant visa so you can apply for it. This was explained to us" ....may i ask who exactly explained that to you?

thank you .

Nawal is correct. Don't mess with the embassy.

not gonna mess with them ,they better dont mess with me

Oh they will mess with you, be sure of that!!! Why don't you just wait until you KNOW what your status will be. It will make it much easier on you and less stressful.

I know being away from your wife is hard. Is there anyway she can come and live in Egypt with you?

Try to think of the best options and go from there. Right now I believe your options are limited due to your possible military commitment.

The visa process is neither fast nor simple. What you want is not what the Egyptian military or the embassy wants. Gotta go by THEIR rules. Just take baby steps now. It will all come together!

Best of luck.

Jeanne is right about the process. And you don't want to risk the money or the problems if you make the wrong move with your temporary release.

When I said "they". I called the Egyptian Embassy here in the US and spoke with an immigration attorney. Both explained that a temporary release will not allow you to leave for immigration purposes as you have not fullfilled your commitment to the army. A k1 is non immigrant thus it would be allowed. (i know the purpose is still to marry, however, someone on a k1 can change their mind and not marry too.)

I did ask my hubby and they did ask for his release paperwork and check his passport visa as valid. So I would be afraid to take the risk in that case.

Best of luck!! (F)

I think he calls her his wife so they're already married and a K1 wouldn't apply. right?

snowbee I'd say you have a 50% chance of being taken in the egyptian military after you complete your education if it is before the age of 30.

i know u guys trying to help and i appreciate the effort u makin to answer

i know they might take me after my graduation but now i'm temporary postponed so it wouldn't be a problem cause i know egyptians who are students already immigrated on k3 visa

and of course the egyptian embassy in US gonna tell u its not allowed to immigrate while studying and i know that very well.

but that doesnt mean the US embassy not gonna issue me the visa

hope any Egyptian students who have experiences are around and willing to help

thank u a bunch

Option 1: Stay in school, wait until you know for sure if you have an exemption from military duty.

Option 2: Quit school, register for the military and see if they are going to take you or not.

If you are chosen to serve, then count on at least a 2 yr service commitment.

As far as the embassy goes.....you MUST have your military exemption or service certificate paper BEFORE any visa is issued in order for the embassy to process your application.

Better yet, go in person to the Passport and Immigration Office in either Cairo or Alexandria depending on where you live!!

Good luck. They will explain your options.
