"Must be a US citizen"

I've noticed this in a few job descriptions: "Must be a US citizen to apply." The jobs are not government jobs or anything where security would be a concern, and some of them aren't even jobs, just contract positions. Is it legal to require US citizenship for jobs other than certain government positions with high security concerns? I thought I read that it wasn't, but I don't remember.

Sure. My husband has had some roadblocks on going into jobs he is HIRED for (site visits) - one of the power stations was owned (?) by NASA, therefore he could not enter.

Some of has to do with what type of information you might have access to. A lot of places where you have access to personal identifying information want to run a background check on you. Even being a a USC doesn't mean you get the job. It isn't hard at all to use that as a legal reason for not hiring someone.

Here is a posting on the governments position on using the US citizenship required in job listings. But you must remember that even the lowest jobs can sometimes have special clearances. I can almost bet the person that empties my trash Politically correct job postinghas the same clearance that I do.
