James Buchanan gets no love

James Buchanan, Jr.[1] (April 23, 1791 – June 1, 1868) was the 15th President of the United States (1857–1861) and the last to be born in the 18th century.

To date he is the only President from Pennsylvania and is the only never to marry. As president he was a "doughface" (a Northerner with Southern sympathies) who battled Stephen A. Douglas for control of the Democratic Party. As Southern states declared their secession in the lead-up to the American Civil War, he held that secession was illegal but that going to war to stop it was also illegal and hence remained inactive. His inability to avert the Civil War has subsequently been assessed as the worst single failure by any President of the United States. Buchanan has been consistently ranked by scholars as one of the worst Presidents.

Obama's term isn't history yet - this is a summary by historians. Wait until he has some time under his belt.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

I still don't see why Kennedy is ranked so high, what did he do to deserve 6th

He porked Marilyn Monroe. He was my parent's favorite. I can't explain it otherwise.

All the potential in the world and $5 will still get you a latte

Evidently that is what the rating is for

He by not listening to his advisers prevented WW III, we probably wouldn't be here to day if it wasn't for his wisdom. JFK was a very sick man, healthwise, if not assassinated, would have been dead in a year, I don't buy those rumors with Marilyn.

You could probably come up with a conspiracy theory where someone on the left realized that JFK wasn't going to be able to deliver everything that was expected of him, so came up with the cunning plan to assassinate him before his shiny reputation was tarnished...

...and no, I don't get how he can be considered the 6th most successful president unless the US really has elected a bunch of #######. :)

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

You need to read your history, and see that JFK's posturing put us very near to nuclear conflagration!

For thirteen days, the world waited, hoping for a peaceful resolution to the crisis. No one was sure how the Soviet leader would respond to the naval blockade and U.S. demands. Recognizing the devastating possibility of a nuclear war, Khrushchev turned his ships back. The Soviets agreed to dismantle the weapon sites and, in exchange, the United States agreed not to invade Cuba. In a separate, unpublicized deal, the U.S. agreed to remove its nuclear missiles from Turkey.*

* The incident that began the confrontation was when Kenedy placed nuclear missiles in Turkey.

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

He let Khrushchev push him around for two years. He finally found some balls once he was backing into a corner with the Cuban missle #######. He was well known for chasing after women so the Monroe stories certainly don't surprise anyone.
