I'm not quite sure I understand this policy. How are these qualifications different than getting an H1-b visa, and then AOS to a Green Card? To me it sounds like if you do not have "quite" the skills of an H1-b worker, then join the Armed Forces for 3 years, risk your life, and get the AOS that way. I guess the question is, should the US Armed Forces allow non-US citizens fight for the US? Seems odd to me (from a national security perspective). Then again I'm from Sweden, a neutral country.

This is pilot program. There is the quota for the cap.

I think it is 1000 or 2000 per year.

Since military has troubles to find the solders for them, they are trying to have somebody in deseprate needs for Green Card or citizenship.

They did this for vietnam war, so they are trying to do same thing.

But some people have objection about this one for various reasons.

Yes - my father was offered US Citizenship for fighting in Vietnam...

My initial thoughts were wow if he'd have taken them up on the offer my journey would have been a lot easier... but then again if he'd have moved to the US he'd have never have met my mother... so I would probably not exist to have the journey anyway...

Temporal Causality is fun.

Was talking to my army captain neighbor on this a couple of days ago, the recruiters are on vacation right now as with out poor economy, all the quotas are filled.

This wasn't the case even last year, our daughter was considering joining the ANG, hey $25,000.00 for college and one weekend a month with pay. Two of her girlfriends signed up with the promise they would never have to go to Iraq, but as soon as they said the oath, were shipped to Texas for MP school and were off to Iraq. Then that same army captain told her those that did sign up were having problems getting that college tuition bonus. But would have been a quick way for her to get USC.

Terrible having a government, you can't even trust, when we had floods last year, not even enough of our guard left to help out. Not really knocking military life, gives you the opportunity to do stuff you can't do anywhere else, but better to go to college first, get any kind of a degree and join as an officer. Pay is far superior as is the duty. Kid brother did that, and at ripe old age of 52, retired as a colonel as a 30 year man. With his fat retirement check, can do anything he wants to.

Hmmm wait a year or a little more and apply for the N-400 or have a chance of killing yourself to get it just a little bit earlier. Since the stipulation is you have to be on a Green Card, then this isn't any bonus at all. People on Green Cards can apply for Citizenship either at 3 years or 5 years (minus the 90 days) anyways and they don't have to watch their arm being blown off...

I'm just a wanderer in the desert winds...

When you join any branch of the ARMED FORCES, YOU are THEIRS. You take an oath (uniform) to defend the Constitution of the United States. Basically the similar to the oath (civilian) I'm going to take soon for my Citizenship.

Anyone who enlisted basically is a volunteer, and they have to follow orders.

If this program was offered everywhere around the world, you wouldn't see much of a shortage in volunteers. There are thousands of filipinos that would take the US up on this offer without any complaints of going anywhere or doing anything.

The program is not for all especially COWARDS that take advantage of the USA.
