And while I am on my soap box...let me tell you something, the only thing ##### about these qualificaion numbers is that if you think you can really support a wife or family on these numbers, you are in for a big surprise. I earn MANY MANY times the amount needed for my family of 4 and we certainly are not "affluent". We have a budget and follow it closely. If you make 4-5 times the minimum it will not be enough for a comfortable life. You know you have to fork out another $1010 when she arrives, yes? And you know after you do this you have to meet the guidelines again with the I-864 form, yes? And you know there are there are many more expenses yet to come, yes? Maybe you have no clue what happens when a woman moves halfway 'round the world to be with you. My wife came with clothes and nothing else. What can they bring? Her electrical appliances wouldn't work here (except her computer) so we spent nearly $1000 the first two days she was here just to replace all the things she couldn't bring. Hey, blow dryers and irons and etc. etc adds up quick, and you think a bachelor has the stuff a woman needs? Dreamer.

So, you're one of those who think finding a spouse from some other country actually means acquiring a pet who just wantswantswants, needsneedsneeds, asksasksasks and demandsdemandsdemands and, therefore, you need to be making a fortune in order to pay for all those wishes and demands?

What if the person who's actually coming to the States has some, y'know, skills and knowledge and can live with just those clothes or whatever they bring until they're ready to start legally working? Believe it or not, there are so many of us.

I don't expect blow driers and irons to be bought for me when I arrive. We'll see if WE can buy those, or anything else we'll want, once I start contributing to our family budget. Or, you know, I might not even come there with a bag full of my clothes and just 50 cents to my name, in the first place.

But yes, we're all different, I know. Some things just make me sick more than the others.

Well maybe not a family, but wouldn't the minimum be enough to support("support", not to live any kind of lavish lifestyle) two people at least until the AOS was filed that would permit both the petitioner and beneficiary to work?

Depends on where you live.

The old Proverty Guidelines was $17,500.00 . If you derived an annual income of $20,000.00 before taxes you are fine on the $17,500.00 , cause $20,000.00 annual income * 125% = $2,500.00000 - $20,000.00 your annual income = $17,500.00 the proverity guidelines . But the guidelines have not chnaged yet . When they do , your annual income has to be $20,813.72 before taxes . $20,813.72 * 125% = $2,601.71500 - $20,813.72 = $18,212.00 . Remember you have to send in the i-864 Affidavit of Support , with USCIS when you adjust status . I would just wait untill the new proverty guidelines first .

Well yeah. But I'm okay with just having the minimum as long as I have him. We can shop clearances and make the dollar store our second home.

"And even though we ain't got money, I'm so in love with ya honey,

And everything will bring a chain of love.

And in the morning when I rise, you bring a tear of joy to my eyes,

And tell me everything is gonna be alright. "

thank you for teaching me karin und utto...

i live in hawaii now with my husband...but my husband didnt spend $1000 for just two days...thats crazy...i only brought about 10 kilos of clothes with me and my documents because i dont want to pay for excess luggage...and i dont want to bring those things that are not allowed in the plane.

whether you are rich or you have so much money to spend $1000 for just two days but still i find it so crazy..maybe if you spent it for important things like food etc...thats a two thumbs up..but blow dryers, irons and etc..oh my god..you must be kidding.

my husband also just exceed a bit in the poverty guideline but we got approved coz my husband is a waiter and he makes money from tips..he has 2 jobs in restaurant and some on-call jobs in banquet...so just find ways to make things work...my husband was able to do it..i know you can do it.

God bless you.

I totally agree. I'm certainly not arriving empty handed. And anything I can't bring by way of electicals that have different voltage...well, if WE can't replace those at once I am prepared to wait until WE can. I'm fairly sure I can manage to live without a blow dryer.

I can explain it to you. But I can't understand it for you.

Hey Matt, Unlike some of these lucky people on here I can't make the minimums either, so I understand where you're coming from. I also understand how frustrated you are. Just relax. Look into getting yourself a part-time job that will supplement your main income. It will take a lot of work and keep you busy, but it will be worth it when this process is over. Keep looking for a co-sponsor but if you can't find one, it's no big deal if you can get a part-time job under your belt.

Not all women are high maintenance enough to need blow dryers, irons, and all those extra little niceties that somebody before mentioned. And if they can't live without, then they are in some serious need of a reality check. Maybe the guy who mentioned this before should have visited a discount store rather than spending $1000 in two days? MY family of 4, soon to be 5 as my fiance will be arriving soon, earns a few thousand dollars more than is required for a family of 5 (not MANY MANY times the amount, as he is so lucky to boast about). We are all healthy and happy with our not-so-lavish lifestyle. I lived in Morocco with nothing but my clothes and the bare necessities (soap, shampoo, etc.) for three months and didn't spend a penny on anything extra.

Don't worry about the bitter comments you're bound to get on here, some people just can't help themselves. Best of luck and I hope your'e able to find that side-job.

I always wonder about people who can't meet the minimum...

There are two sorts of people that I always wonder about...people who make many many times the minimum...and people who can't seem to figure out that there is such a thing as living happily without all those extra niceties.

FYI - The income requirement(s) are based on Gross Income (before taxes).
