Americans staying with your Pinay wife in Philippines

I have been here in the Philippines working my wife's visa from here. I was just wondering if any other American/ Foreign husbands are doing the same and what are you looking forward to about bringing your wife to your country? I know for me it will be the washing machines! LOL. I just can't get use to my wife washing the clothes by hand, working so hard to keep our things clean. It really bothers me that here that women work so hard. I try to imagine one of my daughters living like a Filipina, OMG they would have collapse heheheh.

I don't think I could live for long periods in climate like that, maybe good for four or five years but not much longer. I know some expats that have lived there 20 years with no problems and they don't seem to miss the US a bit.

Yes I agree. My asawa does her laundry by hand with soap also and she has never used a washing machine. I showed her mine in the webcam and I explain it to her I think she is interested in it hehe. Also having a glass cooktop range is interesting to her in the webcam because she only has a charcoal grill there in her home in Mindanao.

I have been there to her place 7 times over the past 12months and try to get visa things done every time. It's been a long process because she didn't even have a postal ID when we started. Also her birth certificate we had to hire an attourney to get fixed because it listed her as a male o.O

Anyway, after one year now we have everything in order, we are married in Phil and she even has a passport and bank account now in her married name. We have embassy interview for k3 visa in March 2. I have been planning to get a place there in phil near her family home so we can spend time there as well, I know she will miss her family.

As a very white american it's interesting but I do like kinilau, fried and baked fish, lechon, rice, and even balat.....

I could easily live in Phil as long as I can travel often if I get bored.

Today is Sunday, off from the grindstone, and time for some menial activities such as watching games on TV and visiting the forums on VJ. Well, my favorite sports, the Daytona 500 and the golf tournament at Dirty Harry’s place in Pebble Beach, are not on the tube yet, not until 11 AM Pacific anyway, so, I have ample time to make a comment on this thread. I’d like you to know also that I’m not a de facto American, I’m just an American of Ilocano ancestry.

Today, MMW’s thread caught my fancy. Firstly, I’d like to apologize to the distaff member of the MMW couple for my outburst on one of her threads a few weeks back when an ill-mannered idiot threw a boomerang at me. Secondly, I’d like to share with you what my fiancée would be looking forward to when she steps on American soil.

She’s not too concerned about the load of household work, for certain. She can’t wait to partake with the typical American food - steak, potatoes and tossed salad, and she’ll try NOT to have rice on the dining table everyday. She also looks forward to the casinos, especially that nearly a dozen Indian casinos are within an hour’s drive from our house. Then, the weather. But I have assured her not to worry too much because winter in Southern California is relatively nonexistent, compared to Washington and Iowa and other states in the frigid zone, and that it’s warmer here in Riverside County than in Davao in July and August.

Okay, I’ve got to go. The Great American Race might be on TV now and here’s wishing that either Jeff Gordon or Jimmie Johnson, my fellow Californians, takes the checkered flag!

Thats funny my wife used to do the same thing washing clothes by hand when I went to the Phils the first time I got her a nice new apartment in a gated subdivision in Bulacan I bought her a washing machine first thing it was nothing like ours here in the States but for her it was a big deal she loved it.

My dad who is with my wifes aunt that is how we met is retired military and he is moving to Phils next month he is going to do 4-6 at a time there I am kind of jealous because the Phils is really a nice place if you live outside of the grind of the city. I told my father he might get bored a little but there is an exclusive golf course nearby I told him to start learning how to play.

For some that have been hard hit by the economy here that would be a nice place to stay for awhile if you have cash saved up to move, and open a small business. You could live like a king.

Oh, man, they just declared the 17 car the winner. They had to stop the race because it's raining, with 48 laps to go. What a shame.

You can hire a helper/maid for $30 per month

Solar Dryer (The Sun) if free

I would give up about everything I have in USA to live in PI......

Yeah, I completely agree with you. But you'll miss your Ranger bass boat and your buzz bait! There ain't no fresh water sportsfishing in Davao, except for that little pond inside Eden park. And, there ain't no largemouth bass either, but your wife might have a largemouth aunt! :star:

Thanks for the info, Ridion. We might try Caliraya the next time I am in the PI. I am also hoping that the locals practice catch and release so as not to deplete the fishery.
