I have added a signature and even uploaded an avatar of me an my sweetheart. Even though I (we) all would love to have approvals and the interview sooner, I hope she doesn't have hers till the end of the year. I would be able to take 3 weeks off to be with her when she has it and bring her home and stay another week with her in our new home to help her adjust.

Oh that's a lovely picture! ^_^

I understand what you mean! It's going to be hard to adjust to a whole new environment and culture but if you're there with her, it would make things so much easier. Transitioning wouldn't be so hard ^^

My fiancé has to go to school from the last week of August until the last week of September. The best case scenario is that I'll be with him by June (it doesn't hurt to hope right? ^_^;; ). But we're thinking that if I get my visa around August, I'll just wait until he's done with school before I fly out - since the K1 visa is valid for 6 months, right?

*

Oh, you're from MI? My fiancé is from Grand Rapids too! :)

Yup. Grand Rapids, MI. Tell him I work right next to the weather ball. Ha ha ha.

I thought the VISA is only good for 3 months. Or is that the time you need to get married once in the states?

6 months to use it to come into the states, then you have to get married within 3 months once arrived.

haha! Will do! XD

He's currently stationed in Mount Pleasant though he's in SC right now for school :) It looks like his orders for school in August/September are getting changed though so we're hoping I'll be with him as soon as possible. ^^

Yup! Danu's right. The K1 visa is valid for six months (180 days). When you get to the States, you have 90 days to get married.

Um, question - do you have to file for Adjustment of Status within the 90 days?

I don't believe you HAVE to, but after you get married you are no longer in status, so it advisable to do so as soon as possible. Not sure if this affects if you do or do not have to have an interview for your AoS or if it makes questioning any harder. I know there have been a few people on VJ who didn't apply for awhile due to financial reasons. They technically followed the purpose of the k1 and got married in the right amount of time, just couldnt put in for the AoS for a few months.

Do you know if there are any restrictions when you're "out of status"?

I assume if you do anything stupid chances are you might be taken in for questioning, but i'm not sure if anything negative will happen if you can prove you have gotten married and are working on your AOS package. They might just wonder why you waited so long. Couldn't tell you for sure without researching, so I will take a look into it tonight and see what I can dig up for you :D

Congrats doboy! Another one closer to my turn!

sorry for hijacking your thread, but has anyone with NOA2 of 3/23 had their case recieved by NVC yet? The reason I am asking in this thread is everyone with my NOA2 date is from february! I checked timelines, but I thought maybe someone might not have updated theirs...
