Advance Parole - specific dates?

I was under the impression that the advance parole document was simply to allow the visa holder passage back into the country in the event it was needed - in other words, not for a specific trip, but just in case anything came up. My husband's grandparents aren't sick or dying, but they are up there in age, and since there's no telling how long the AOS could take, we wanted to apply for AP just in case anything happened and he was needed back home. The application is asking for exact dates of departure and for how long.

Do we have to furnish this? Will they enforce that precise date and that date alone? How does it work?

Just pick a date sometime in the year. The AP will be valid for one year, and you can use it at any time.

The I-131 has many uses, and in some cases like a refugee they need to specify why and when it will be used, this is not the case for a K-1.

Nick's AP was approved in 59 days. For dates he put "no immediate plans." For expected length of trip, he put "short trips (less than 2 weeks)"

So I would say a specific date was not needed since he has the docs in hand.

I followed Nich's advice, and hopefully all will go through smoothly. I think many people have similar situations to ours, and those who handle our applications will recognise this.

I wanted to add that a specific date might fit if you had a specific reason like "my sister's wedding in London" and you knew the dates. But many of us have some general reason like "in case of family illness or emergency" which wouldn't have a date. So I would say fit your date response to your reason for requesting AP.
