Of course we always hear the bad news when a gun is used in a bad way. How come we never hear about the times guns have saved lives?

And yes I have a license to carry a concealed weapon.

good link, bookmarked here

I carry a gun because a cop is too heavy.

i cede that it may be an idea when an owner has very few firearms. i don't see it being too much of an option for me with the number i have, and it certainly wasn't an option for my dad.

Why does the number of weapons make any difference? If anything, IMO, it makes even MORE sense to disable those weapons (if they can be disabled without destroying them, that is).

I don't understand much about guns, but for 'self-protection' just how many weapons does one need at the ready? Wouldn't one be enough?

how often do you hunt for your car keys? now just multiply that by about 20 fold or more when trying to remember where you put X that goes to X gun.

eta: missed the other question you posed:

as for how many one needs for self protection, i'd guess up to 3 different types, depending on where one lives.

for example, my carry gun is a .40 cal s&w. good solid performing round. however, if i lived in an apartment, it would not be my choice for home defense, probably a 9mm would be a better choice. as for traveling, i prefer my .44 mag, due to it's capabilities.

ever been carjacked at gunpoint? or knifepoint? i don't see how being a man even plays into the equation there.

were you to drive southern texas (or even the southern states that border mexico) late at night, you might feel a whole lot more secure with a firearm with you.

And I don't see how having a gun makes a person more of a man.

Just a difference in viewpoints, and that's all. Not an insult.

Oh Charles, come on. Don't tell me that a person couldn't organize their weapons. For chrissake, I organize four therapists and about 50 clients a day. You aren't stupid, are you? :P

i don't recall anyone saying having a gun makes one more of a man - or woman.

you need to define organize weapons before you can get too spun up on comparing organization of firearms to therapists.

If there was imminent threat and I did not have a gun then what would happento me? I have one because I can. I carry it when I want. No one can tell me otherwise. Like I said before change the constitution.

The problem is the 99.9% of your life when you are not in imminent threat, and you are walking around with a loaded weapon. Even people whose life is on the line on the clock, act like fools off the clock, when they let their guard down, and blow off a little steam. Put the weapon away. You don't need it, and chances are, you never will.

Are you not man enough to take care of yourself without a weapon?

Again, we aren't talking about changing any laws. I was asking - nicely I might add - about gun safety.

I am way more man enough than you could ever handle. I am also alive today because I have a weapon. Now read before where I say I know all about safety. I teach it in fact. Now since you know nothing about me or know why or even when or the times I carry my concealed weapon then I suggest you be quiet as ignorance is bliss.

I'm talking about organization of anything. "Organizing your weapons" like "organizing your work day". Or organizing your coat closet. Or whatever.

You know what I really don't understand about this discussion? I have never ONCE uttered anything here about changing a law; taking away anybody's right to own or possess a gun; or even called guns 'necessary evils'. All I have done is ask a few simple questions about making guns in the home as safe as absolutely possible. And what I'm picking up on is - frankly - a bunch of excuses.

Now seriously guys - why is THIS such a touchy subject?

people carry for many reasons. I have a conceal/carry and choose not to bring my gun outside of the home. I live in suburbia with little crime and I went to H.S. with all the local cops

So because a few idiot off duties make them all bad.

Do you even know when or why or the times I carry? Are you assuming I carry one all the times? Of course you do not so stop being ignorant and assuming things you have no idea about.

Now, that is being sensible.

Oh please. You don't know much about me either, Lucky.

And trust me - I could break you without a gun. Because I'm the kind of woman who makes pathetic creatures like yourself moan to your grave about the biggest mistake you ever made.

no matter how much i talk to them, they still won't move. maybe that's a difference between therapists and guns :P

so um, what makes you think my guns are not organized? i know where every one of them is - and currently only one firearm is outside of the gun safe.
