Ok, I posted it in the CR1 forum, but I think we have more experience coming from the ME. When you have your interview and you are handed an OF-194 it is checked "other" and says to come back when security clearances are complete. Do they normally have you sign the DS230 and Swear you in? This just seems odd to me, that if the checks aren't done, then you come back and finish the paperwork.

I noticed that Ali is from Iran. My father(also from Iran) was handed a 221g and was told to check the embassy's website freuently and come back as soon as his application number appears there. Do you know if this is a refusal or simply an additional name check for iranian males? please advise. Thanks

This is not a flat out refusal. If they were going to do that they would have told your father that he was denied. This is just more administrative checks.

Hi sam11! Yep, just means that they are having their security checks completed. You can see by my timeline that it didn't take too long to be completed. They usually have it in 4-6 weeks. Just keep calling the DOS and they can tell you what the status is. I called everyday until they said he was cleared, then the next updated list on their website showed his case number. He went back last week and was issued the visa in 2 days. Don't worry, just normal processing for Iranians.

By the way do you know what number I should call to find that out?
