Hey guys..i know this may seem a bit careless and silly to ask but has anyone ever worked whilst waiting for their greencard?

My husband is at work al day and i hate not being able to make contributions to the income. On work application forms it only asks if i have legal right to work in the usa. ive already been offered two really really good jobs and i hate turning them down especially since the circumstances.

My question is... how will the governemnt really know? I have a social security card from my summer camp job and both work places havent asked me for further evidence of right to work.

has anyone worked and been ok getting green card or is this just a really stupid idea. I dont wanna ruin anything so if there isa way they wll find out then i will obviously turn down the jobs.

Assuming it is a legit job (not cash under the table), the government will know from the tax records of the company you work for.

If you do NOT have a work permit then i advice you NOT to do it. They will find out and you can be prosecuted!!!

I don't know a lot about the situation you are in and I am no expert. But it seems to me that it is a bad idea. They will know because the job will take taxes from you every week. This information will be plan as day on a social security statement. The social security statement is a recording of all the jobs you have worked at and the amount of taxes you have paid. It will be on your record that you worked illegally. If I were you I would explain your case to your possible employers and hope for the best. In the mean time try volunteering it will give you good experience and if you do a good job maybe even a job. Good luck.

I will just have to turn down one job and then make the other one voluntary (which will look good for my CV anyways) antill i get the green card. Its annoying to turn down the other job but i guess its just not worth it. Will be sending off the AOS package Monday so shouldnt take too long (2-3mnth right) and i cant get intotruble for voluntary wrk can i?!

Be sure you file for EAD and AP with the AOS also. Normally get the EAD within 90days, Then you can work until the GC comes.

If you're not getting paid for it, nope, shouldn't be a big deal. I'm a naturalized citizen and I used to volunteer at many places even before my aos papers were sent. So voluntary work is not a problem.
