I have been searching for Russians in or around Jackson, MS. We have only met a couple and do not socialize with them. It would be great if there were some in this area. It is hard since there is not a Russian community here. Anyone out there?

Thanks.

I found at least 2 Orthodox Churches in your state, at Clinton and McComb, not sure if they are close to you but it is a start.

Also you can google "Slavic churches" which will lead you to many protestant churches catering to Russian speakers.

Where I live in Charlotte we have a number of Russian churches as well as "European food stores" which always seem to be run by russians.

It seems we can hardly go out without running into Russians, (today at the library).

A few years ago (when I was not aware) I hardly saw any.

Russians seem very reluctant to just start talking to other Russians they bump into, but if I break the ice, in 2 minutes they are trading phone numbers.

My wife has met a number of local Russian through a Russian (facebook type) site.

www.odnoklassniki.ru (I think thats it)

To be honest some Russians you will meet .... (Hmmm...how to put this...)

Be careful, not everyone is concerned with you having a happy marriage.

You can also meet guys (it's mostly guys) who married Russian ladies on message boards such as RUADVENTURES.com (there are a few others) There are bound to be some guys from your area.

I met a few Russian/ american couples this way and they has been good company.

You can also try Meetup.com to locate Russian speakers in your area. We did have a Russian language group here, but it kinda fizzled out.

If I were you I would try to locate Russian/ American couples (unless you speak Russian).

For a number of reasons,

good luck.

My wife is on that odnaklassniki site as well and she's found a few folks to introduce with. The majority though, as Danno said, were guys who were "more than willing" to show her around and welcome her to the area. For some reason, those guys didn't want to meet me....

We have met some cool folks through this site but I don't know if any are down that way.

http://www.odnoklassniki.ru/ is actually similar to the failed paid version of http://www.classmates.com/. Basically odnoklassniki, means same classmates. But I suppose it can be compared to http://www.facebook.com/. My wife use facebook to communicate with locals here and odnoklassniki to keep up with her friends from Russia. Even my father is on odnoklassniki. I seem to have no interest in any of these.
