My wife and I have discussed the differences between the PI and the states when it comes to this topic. She is amazed that the kids in the states would dare speak back or even disagree with a parent. I can hardly wait till she gets to the states and sees it first hand. OMG!!! TAKE COVER. And a side note to my children PLEASE DONT GO THERE! YU WONT SURVIVE THE EXPLOSION> HEHEHE

Oh, that's been a real issue with my wife and my teen age son. What Filipinos perceive as children being disrespectful, I see it as we are much less formal here. If you're children are above the age of 9, this may be a real problem for you two. You might want to sort it out as best you can before she arrives so that the two of you are both on the same page. Just my two cents. :star:

actually my kids are all grown and my youngest(21) calls me the "old guy" and it bothers my wife but i tell her it is not meant disrespectfully it is just an endearment for him. She is getting better with it and i think she is prepared for the shock. The thing she is struggling with is the extended family, Not being that close like in the Philippines. She can't understand why they dont get together more often than holidays weddings or birthdays.

Does your husband cook? I myself like to BBQ, I enjoy being outside so that works for me. Also you could try cooking together...just a suggestion

Hey naku! Tell your lazy butt husband to help you with the housework! You are his wife, not his house maid! My husband is picky too, so I let him do all the cooking, and he does the occasional heavy cleaning, like vacuuming and scrubbing floors, as well as take out the trash, and clean the bathroom. I sweep, do the dishes (usually), dust, and make the bed.

Hokey Smoke!

Rocky: "Baby, are they still mad at us on VJ?"

Bullwinkle: "No, they are just confused."

When I get tired of reading here in VJ, I do something else but if this word WORTHLESS cross in mouth/mind, I will email Mr. Ewok immediately to revoke my membership because it means is not worth to log-in in here.

Good thing about this kind of forum, you see the good, the bad and the major ugly. oops. Peace to everyone and happy valentines day :)

Sorry to hear that.just be patient. In our home,I have no problem with my husband when it comes to cleaning or cooking he helps me as much as he can even if he's tired from work and he likes pinoy foods esp.pancit :D Just be patient and ask him what he likes when it comes to foods don't just cook anything esp pinoy foods that in the end he might not like the taste because he is not used to it.there are lots of american recipes that you can find online also. Celebrations...

Americans - less people, less often, limited to birthdays and the major holidays, and it's over in a couple of hours.

Filipinos - everyone and their brother shows up, happens nearly every week because somebody's getting married, their baby's getting baptized or it's someone's birthday, and the party will last until you unplug the videoke machine.

...............

American spouses, your thoughts?

Pinoy/Pinays, have you noticed the differences?

I guess because filipinos have strong family ties and its part of our culture? Most of us pinoys have laidback lifestyles and we love to be happy and love to be with our families and friends  whereas the americans were different in alot of ways because they are busy with their careers as it is very important for them to maintain their lifestyles etc. and time is very precious for them like my husband. So really its up to us on how we manage our life and our time.

I have dust allergy. I told my husband that i wont clean the house. We have a cleaning lady do that for me.

For cooking, i have a dozen of recipe books. He never complains of my cooking. Coz if he does, he is incharge of cooking the next meal. It works... No complains so far.

That's nice that you have somebody to do the cleaning. It really depends on the couple on how they agree on things around the house and seems to me that you are a good cook since your hubby has no complains about it
