My New Life here in America

Hello, VJ Friends! It`s been a while that I haven`t posted here. I`m finally back now. I`m now here in USA (Michigan) we arrived here with fellow (VJ Friends- Sweetybabe) she was in Chicago right now. I`m happy and contented that I `m with my fiance now soon to be husband on (March 28) our wedding date. I`m bless to have a good sister in law and parent`s in law although I haven`t meet them since they are in Tennessee they make sure to always call me here in the house. Asking if I`m fine here , if I am not feeling cold and If I have something to eat that I like, because I don`t like much the food here, they are salty, sweet and all processed food.

When I arrived here my fiance had 4 days leave from his work and now that he is back to work last Monday. I`m always alone here in the house. My companion is our only dog Abby. A nice boxer dog , always guarding me and protecting me here whenever she heard something diff. she would always bark and after would go back to her seats.

I `m just one week here to be exact today. But the weather has been affecting me here, Michigan is a cold state and I would probably say that I don`t like the cold season here. I have few photos from the snow just to show to my family in Philippines what kind of environment I have here. But frankly I am not really enjoying the weather here.I don`t have high tolerance in cold season.Every time we go out I would always wear a thick high thermal jacket and the car should always be in a warm temperature. Nothing to do but to accept what`s really in store for me here. I feel sad being alone here . I do a lot of computer thing not to get bored but sometimes would walk around the house and look out the window outside. Sad thing, no people in the streets. It`s gloomy always. It`s a total change for me from culture, weather, environment, food, language, etc. I love my fiance and being here is a big sacrifice for me. How I wish I can go back soon there in Philippines and enjoy the tropical weather with my family and friends.I miss my family and friends there! Oh, I love Philippines!

Until here! and for those who are still in the Philippines. Enjoy every minute of your life there with you family and friends. You will miss that if you are already here in the USA.

Good luck to those who are still waiting and keep it up!

More power to all VJ community and May God bless us all!

It is a natural feeling. It is a big change for anybody who has lived his/her entire life in a completely different environment, climate, people, surroundings, etc., I recall when I came to Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1990 from Singapore, I was only 18 and it was extremely depressing. All the feelings you describe are exactly the ones I went through, except I did not have the dog to guard me and I was struggling with my studies and trying to work at the same time.

guess what.. 19 years have passed by now! This is my country now and I have feel at home.

So you will get used to it. If you and your soon to be husband can get out of MI and move into a warmer state (Texas, Vegas, California) you would actually enjoy your life very much.

good luck to you.

Claudeth is affected even by the mild weather in southern California. She takes really good care of the house and I appreciate that. I suggest you find some sort of activity to get involved with. I have been pestering Claudeth to go to school or even take some sort of class on the internet but she hasn't yet. At least it is warmer here so she can always catch the bus to the mall. Is your fiance going to teach you how to drive? At least you could get out on your own. Good luck

Try to get with any of the volunteer organisation, if nothing else go to the nearest YMWA and try to volunteer, this will give you both experience for Job in the future and also out of boredom.

Hope you have a fab married life ahead. Best wishes (F)

Yes, my soon to be hubby will teach me how to drive soon. Maybe on spring time I will start to study driving here, can`t study that for now because the weather here, its snowy and so cold. We don`t have public bus here, I saw one bus but it`s bound to Detroit and my fiance seldom visit that city also and I won`t try either unless I`m not with him. Thanks and Good luck to both of you too!

Its such a weird feeling hay... but try to live like we still in PI like for example cook some filipino food for an instant. Like adobo and menudo hahahahaha..... This week all i do is research some organization were i could join then try to find some filipina within your area it will not hurt to try thats what i kee doing so i'm online most of the time while my man is working.

Welcome to US. Try to find some filipina in the area. And try to keep yourself busy. You would eventually adjust with the weather.

Netscot, you have received some good advice here like make sure to cook food that you like and that is comforting to you. Maybe there is an online store that you can get certain goodies from that you may not be able to find at your local supermarket. I know cooking meals that tasted like 'home' were good for me while I was adjusting here (plus I was also not crazy about the food and gained a bit of weight <_< )

I had visited my DH 3 times in GA before finally moving here and I struggled. Try to stay positive and keep busy. Stay in regular contact with your friends and family back home until you start developing a social circle in the States, especially since you are home alone so much. I use Skype to call my mom & friends on their landlines in South Africa as broad band is not very popular. Be prepared for culture shock and be aware of what you can do to combat it. Your DH may not always completely understand the adjustment you are making. I know my DH sometimes got frustrated because he just wanted to fix it and I just wanted to feel sorry for myself :P Sometimes the negative feelings caused from culture shock can seep into a marriage. Just something to be aware of. The lack of public transport is not ideal at all so it is great that you will be taking driving lessons. Find out about local organizations that need volunteers. They may even pick you up and drop you off since you are not mobile yet. I am not familiar with Michigan so I can't say much about the weather but maybe it has a nice summer?

Hang in there! :star:

At least you could get the driving book from the DMV and study that. I bought driving lessons for Claudeth and she did learn a lot. I just need to find some time to take her out somewhere so she can practice.

I could definitely tell what you're feeling right now. I'm on the same shoes. Hehe

It's a total makeover in my life. My new life here, the environment, weather, people, food.. EVERYTHING..

Though I think, it did changed me. I'm more used to the life I have in PI---having our maids doing everything.

But I'm glad I'm cooking foods here now and doing pretty much everything our maids do in PI..

I'm lucky that my fiance shares the chores with me since he's gonna be back to work on the 23rd.

Haay! Iba talaga dito.. So, sa mga filers na nanjan pa sa PI, enjoy and savor everything..

'Cause when you're here in the US, its totally different and you have no choice but to cope up..=D
