A woman whose husband was killed in the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the World Trade Center is believed to be among the victims of Thursday night's commuter plane crash near Buffalo, N.Y.

Passenger Beverly Eckert had been on her way to Buffalo to mark what would have been her late husband's 58th birthday. Sean Rooney was in the second tower in New York City when a plane hit it.

Eckert's sister, Sue Bourque, said the family hasn't received official confirmation of her sister's death.

"We know she was on that plane," her sister said, "and now she's with him."

Eckert was part of a small group of Sept. 11 widows, mothers, and children who became amateur lobbyists, ultimately forcing lawmakers in 2004 to pass sweeping reforms of the U.S. intelligence apparatus.

The 74-seat plane crashed into a home in Clarence Center near Buffalo around 10:25 p.m. ET, killing 49 people on board and one on the ground.

It is so sad that the family has to endure this again. She just met with Obama last week with other families from 9-11 and the Cole attacks.

What are the odds that a couple would die in separate air crashes? They were completely luckless.
