here's the one about the guy who was dehydrated

He claims that as soon as the show was over, he regained “32 pounds in 5 days simply by drinking water.” This is incredible and points to the fact that when any person loses weight rapidly, (faster than 1-2 pounds a week) normally the weight loss is mostly due to water loss.

Life is a ticket to the greatest show on earth.

I found something about the guy who gained weight back...

though third season 'Biggest Loser' champ, Erik Chopin, lost a remarkable 214 pounds on the show, he has gained half his original weight back. Weighing in close to 300 pounds, Chopin says once he stopped getting attention from the show, he fell into depression and stopped exercising. He sat down for a candid interview with Access Hollywood to talk about yo-yo dieting, body lift surgery and getting his weight under control.

I have to commit to a life style change otherwise this fat is going to kill me. Its just taken me some time to get it in my head. I am feeling comfortable with me diet now and don't have the urges that I used to have when I tried to loose weight before.

Do you exercise too? I'm really interested, 22 pounds is a big accomplishment in such a short time.

It's all about willpower - and with me, that goes out of the window at the weekend. See, over Christmas, I went up to 16 stone (that's 224lbs in American money) basically due to me not going to the gym the 5-times-a-week that I usually do. Monday thru Friday, I stick religiously to grilled chicken and fish, with a few boiled potatoes, broccoli & carrots. As well as that, I do 30 minutes on the treamill (at a speed that burns 600 calories in that time), followed by an hour on the cross trainer (the "Kilimanjaro" setting, level 14) that burns another 1,200.

This regime brings me back down to around between 210-212 by Friday, but then it all goes out the window. Take today, for example: I've just eaten two cheeseburgers and fries, with a couple of individual Belgian truffle chocolate cheesecakes, washed down with half-a-dozen bottles of the 30+ or so beers I'll drink this weekend (and let's not even start on the leg of pork - complete with crackling - with all the trimmings I'll devour on Sunday). So by Monday, I'm right back to square one.

But you know what? BOLLOX!!! I'm 6'3", and I can carry it!!!!!!!!!

I have a goal of loosing 100 within the next two years. I weighed 292 my last doctor visit. According the the health scale, my BMI at 20 to 22 would be the best but that would put me at 170 pounds, that may be too light. I am thinking about 195 or so. I am 6'2"

I'm 5'9" and weigh 213 lbs which is a 31.5 BMI. That makes me obese by that standard. I eat a lot more rice now but my wife has a hard time making smaller portions. I run almost 2 miles every other day at 10 min./mile pace. I'm not losing weight though even after a few months.

My father has a highly overweight BMI of 29.8 but is 88 years old. Genes must play a part.

Absolutely. Tell me, have you always been a "well proportioned" chap? Because so called "obesity" isn't half as dangerous in those whose hearts, lungs, and vital organs, have been used to operating within a NATURALLY large frame from pretty much day 1 (German ex-chancellor, Helmut Kohl, is the example I always use here - 78, and fat #### his whole life, but as healthy as can be). It's those of us that were once skinny, but have burgeoned due to excessive fat/carb intake (in both liquid and solid form) that have cause for concern.

Yep. From what I've read about our body's metabolism, normal weight loss of mostly fat will be 1-3 lbs. per week. Any amount above that, the body's metabolism adjusts. Given that - a real season of the Biggest Losers would show people losing no more 12-15 lbs. per month. That show is unreal and I feel sorry for the contestants once the contest is over. I predict that show will go bust once enough former winners all show that they put back most of their weight.

No, I was always fairly thin until the last four years. I don't know if I buy your premise that the body adjusts to having a heavier weight if you were fatter when you were younger.

It's those of us that were once skinny, but have burgeoned due to excessive fat/carb intake (in both liquid and solid form) that have cause for concern.

The matabolism slows and I think that's the main reason. I don't eat more than I did before but I didn't exercise much in the last 4 years except in the last 3 months.

But that's my point - your body doesn't have to adjust if you've always been hefty. It's totally accustomed to how you've always been.

Wow...that candy contributed to most of your intake of fat. :o

I think it's better for the metabolism to try and eat more portioned meals, which contain some fat, carbs and protein, rather than getting your daily fat intake from a single source.

Aren't you some sort of fitness trainer? You can manage a wee bit more than that, surely? I do the first 15 mins on the treamill at 10kph, then increase to 11kph between 15-25 mins, then increase to 12kph for the last 5 mins - 600 cals burned, guaranteed.

I have done 1227 calories and 31% was from fat. I need to get that lower. Of course 7 grams were from tuna so that isn't quite so bad.

sort of  but i'm so bad with eating. i have a sweet tooth and it kills me! but, yes...interval training is highly effective and burns calories for hours after exercise. and this week i ate and drank so much...bday party, funeral. i have no self control. then i hate myself afterward. ughh!

Jim, IMO - focusing too much on total fat intake is not that effective. All fats, like carbs, are not created equal. If you need to snack between meals for example, I'd recommend nuts or seeds, which are high in fats, but they are essential fatty acids that will actually lower your cholesterol and help you to lose bad fat weight.
