I am the USC. My finacee is ready to make his medical appointment anytime. Only one problem though. He is depending on his mom to drive him to London for everything. She says the she cant take him for the medical until some time in April. Now, I'm trying to be as patient as I can be but this sounds completely unacceptable to me. He doesnt seem to want to make the effort to find other ways to get to this medical sooner. I'm sure the interview will be as difficult to find transportation as well. (A little background, he's not working currently and doesnt have a car of his own, nor would he drive by himself)

This situation has caused a huge fight between us, so much that we arent speaking today. To me, it seems that he doesnt care enough to get here and be married as fast as possible. He seems content to wait months and months. He hasnt even concidered an option other than his mom driving him. He thinks I'm being unreasonable for feeling this way. So I am I being unreasonable?

I know England has trains into London or some other kind of transportation. Anyone know of a link that I can look at to find the pricing? He lives south of Birmingham. I'm guessing maybe if I send him money, he'll get his #### on a train but who knows.

No I dont think you are being unreasonable at all. Its easy to get to London from Birmingham, loads of trains and even coaches. I live in London and it has been a while since I travelled by train to Birmingham but I'm sure its not very expensive especially if you book your ticket in advance. My guess would be £10. Even cheaper is to take a coach, again very frequent service to Victoria Coach Station. I have to say his excuse seems very feeble and certainly hard to understand! Mike

For my 2c if cost is a concern and you have time on your side you can catch a train to Coventry about £4.10 return from Birmingham and book to catch a train to London from £10 return from Coventry, though the average when I just did a search was £19.90 - £23 return. It does take twice the normal time (ie 2 hours instead of 1 each way) if time is important the search I completed showed the best deal at £31.50.

If you book a month or so in advance, you can get a killer deal. I'm going from Birmingham New St to London Euston, direct, next weekend. The cost? £10. No arsing around with changing at Coventry or anywhere else. Ten Quid.

Just remember to book in advance, and you're laughing.

I'm going from Royal Leamington Spa and it's going to probably be £25 or so from me, but that's because i'm not on a major line from Birmingham, just a little off to the side.

There's always the megabus too.....that's about £1 each eay if money is an issue

That's the line I generally use (I live near Solihull) and it's £18 Brum - Marylebone return (off peak).

Oh really? Great :D I was looking before for that, but to get it for less than £20 it was a late(ish) night return - leaving London after 9 I think?!

To be honest, if I have to walk to London for my medical and/or interview, that's what i'll do. We've not gone through all the trauma of this process together just for me to delay it all because someone won't drive me. But that's just me!

Hope the original poster gets it all sorted soon :D
