Which leaves 21% who are not. Bravo BY. So again, just because there are more gang members who are XXX, does not give anyone the right to treat all who are XXX as if they were gang members. Have you got that now?

You really are a silly woman. 79% is considered a majority by any means. 14% of Caucasians are gang members yet they make up the majority of the population.

Here are newer stats, which actually back my previous assumptions based on population increases.

Of course... 79% of gang members does not equate to 79% of black or hispanic people.

That seems to have escaped his notice. I would imagine gang membership runs at about what 1% of the population as a whole and maybe a slightly higher % in some cities?

Police efforts generally focus on "reasonable suspicion" - like being caught with the gun in your hand, or loading stolen property into the back of your car.

Being black or hispanic isn't "reasonable suspicion".

I can certainly accept that many (or even most) gang members in LA are black or hispanic. What I don't understand is what implications are being put forward as a result of this.

It just seems like the same dodgy old reasoning that gets minorities pulled over/aside on the assumption of wrongdoing, not by virtue of actual suspicious activity but on the basis that their ethnicity makes them so.

What the stats show is that guns should be taken out of the hands of Hispanics in this country. The represent nearly half of the gang members in this country.

yea, but don't you think isolation/profiling in this case would create resentfulness amongst the 'well behaved' hispanic population? what about the good elements that contribute to society? in that case the all equal aspects of the constitution wouldn't be held

To be fair it all stems from the same faulty reasoning though. In his head the fact that there is a 40% chance of a gang member being hispanic = to a 40% chance of a hispanic being in a gang. In fact I would go so far as to say somehow that translates to a 60% chance of a hispanic being in a gang

The stats you presented show a demographic breakdown of gang ethnicity.

They do not show that guns should be taken out of anyone's hands. That's a statement of opinion on your part - completely unconnected to that statistics you presented.

BY being a gang member is not in any way representative of the population. There are likely about 1% of the population that are gang members so even if 100% of gang members were hispanic you couldn't target hispanics as being gang members. Do you understand?
