A few weeks ago I found a lump underneath my breast as I check them quite often, well this lump of sorts was sore as hell, after a couple of days it went down and left a bruise that is still there, a couple of days ago another lump the same as the first one appeared and as sore as hell again, the night before last I had a really bad night, was really crouchy and just a pain, yesterday I was in agony, when Jon came home from work he had had enough and made me ring the doctor ( yeah I know I should of rang a lot sooner) the nurse that I spoke to on the phone said I might have an abcess and said it was best if I went to ER, we went to Tacoma and to the Group Health hospital, they were very nice and the doctor was sooo sweet, I am glad I went, first of all they numbed the area (which hurt more than what they did next) then they lanced the area, then they gave me antibiotics, the doctor said if I get anymore then I am to see her straight away, it was an excellent experience and I hope women check there breasts more often.

This is an important topic, thanks for posting it. It's a vital health issue for all of us women, and checking your breasts regulary could possibly save your life, or at least save you some pain from other infections. Again, thanks for posting this. I do hope your problem is cleared up soon.

Now let's hope that this topic doesn't get turned into something that it was totally not meant to be, and something that won't be helpful to women.

I agree, I do like humour though, a little giggle takes away the pain if you understand what I mean.

I do not want to take away the seriousness of the topic, I posted because woman do need to check as often as possible but I do not want woman to get into a state of panic about it either, just if you are not sure about what it is you have then please just get it checked out, the relief of finding out it is just an abscess is like nothing i've ever experienced.

Is there a cause for an abcess, like bumping into something, sleeping wrong, bra sqeeze, etc.? Or is it something that (like all other things that women get) "just happens?"

(SYMPATHY TO ALL WOMEN ON THIS THREAD.... Can you imagine if guys actually got 1/2 the problems that you have to deal with? So glad I'm a guy... call me a sissy if you want! But you ladies just have too much to deal with!)

Janice, I am so glad that you are okay... thank you for starting a very important thread. Hopefully, no more abcesses will occur. *hugs*

It is serious. Most women don't know their "breasts" include the area below the breast all the way around and into the armpits - that's why I stopped using antiperspirants or any under arm deodorant with aluminum and zinc and Lord knows what.

Thanks for the sympathy. :D I am not sure what causes them. The abscesses seem spontaneous... and can probably be many things, but I blame poor bra structure (underwires esp.), wrong size and being sedentary during the day. If you have a desk job the bottom of the bra is pressing into the same spot until you get up or shift position. Just burn your bra - as soon as I get home I toss that oppressive garment straight accross the room.

Um...is this a problem experienced more often by women who are more amply blessed?

I spoke to the doctor about this, this problem is caused by a bacteria in the body, the doctor said it could happen to anyone at anytime and is not particular to one group of people. Although I have got enough up top to have more than one helping if you get what I mean. I was given a sheet about it, which I've left in the flipping car, once Jon gets home from work I will post what it says.

My doc didn't say that, but what your doc makes total sense. When it happened to me I was drinking a lot of wheatgrass and barley greens, which detoxes the daylights out of you - I got pimples on my forhead and I was blowing my nose a lot...er ah productively. Sorry for the TMI.
