Yayay, HI NINA (L) Yes, I actually felt alone as well... but I'm happy to know that there are at least a few others here in Egypt going through the same process.

My husband is currently awaiting his packet... meanwhile, he's fixing to do is his medical, and get his police certificate.. as I struggle through the AOS LOL

I know two others that are part of this group but they don't come on here much anymore. I did see one the other day and I'm thinking about DCF in October. It's difficult to decide right now. Things are still up in the air.

I hope to apply for DCF in August... I was married on Feb. 14th, 2009. I'm not sure about the residency though, I entered Egypt on Feb. 2nd, and when I married I got a 2 week residency stamp. I'm not sure about how I demonstrate my residency through until August... anyone have any ideas what I should do? Should I go back to the residency office and tell them I need it to last until August?

Also, when should I call to set the appt? I must leave back to the states to resume my schooling at the very end of August so I must do it then. I'm assuming I'll have to leave before him and have him follow me. :(

Unfortunately he will finish his uni this semester and after that he will await his army status. Not sure how that will affect us...

How fast do you usually get the visa?

We are in Alexandria, btw. :)

Ah, so stressful.

Well, we went through hell at the government building to get my residence permit, still don't have it... the lady made us come back 3 days in a row and then just told us that it had to go to "National Security" for 21 days... nice, should have told us that from the beginning instead of making us travel every day for nothing... sigh. I also didn't appreciate her "Stupid Egyptian men coming with their stupid foreigner wives comment".

The residence permit will hopefully be given in a few days, the problem I'm worried about is the US Embassy. I've been here since the beginning of February, but my residence visa only came now. When I apply for DCF in August, will they tell me I'm ineligible since my residence permit came in April? Or they will count from my entry?

Where did you have to travel to? We were in Alexandria and I had no problems whatsoever obtaining my residency permit. Did they say why there was a problem? Am very surprised about the comment she gave you. They were extremely nice to me.

Sorry this happened and I hope you will have it soon.

We are staying about an hour from Alex now until my hubby finishes his studies, then we are going back to Alex in the summer. :)

We went to the one in Alex, but the lady there was just super angry about everything. When we first approached her it was obvious she was having a bad decade or something. She was really rude and gave us a hard time about everything. We were being really polite too. I have no idea what was wrong with her... she kept cursing Khaled and screaming everything.

She told us after a few days of going back and forth that we went to National Security. When we asked why didn't she tell us that from the beginning she just said that everyone has to go through National Security before getting the residence permit and we should have known. We just gave up and left.

I hope we get it soon... I'm just worried if the residency requirement will be filled or not for the DCF now...

And actually, that lady copied the information I wrote down wrong (Khaled's phone number), so the National Security people found us and made us come in for a mini questioning because of that.

How did that go? I don't want to risk getting my resident visa from the Egyptian Embassy in San Fransisco because I heard bad things about their administrative processing. I already have a ticket and want to make sure I get my passport back in time to see Waleed after 2.5 years even if I have to enter on a tourist visa and get the resident visa there. I don't have more money to change the ticket if there was some delay in returning my passport and I leave in 38 days. Then I'm going to be there for 8 months. I know Waleed has to write some letters for me to the Embassy and he's tied up in the Egyptian Military so it complicates things a bit there too.

When I enter can I just show my marriage license and tell him that my Husband is waiting in the terminal for me? I read somewhere that they stamp your passport with a resident visa then saying "Wife of an Egyptian" in Arabic.

Oh, it wasn't bad or anything. We just had to go to the building and wait and then we sat with a man who just asked some general questions about us and our marriage... like how long have you known her, where are you living, why did you move to damanhour (we have two houses), and if my family is upset about our marriage (cultural differences). The guy was pretty nice and it was no problem at all. Just a pain to have to deal with all of that because of the visa.

I'm not sure about your entry visa, though I've heard of doing that, so I think it is possible. Anyways you can just get a tourist visa, or will that take a long time? It only took me about 1 1/2 weeks to receive mine, I entered on that and went after awhile to get the residence. :] You can just have your husband go to Administration of Passports and fill the form to get the residence visa. I guess my situation was special, some people walk in and get the visa the same day. Insha'Allah you don't get the same lady, though.
