The only thing i am worried about for my interview besides that we met online... is that we are living currently with my Wife's Mom and paying her rent, she wrote me an affidavit explaining it, but i simply don't know what to do if they ask for an apartment lease? My mom-in-law is also my joint sponsor. Any advice? Interview is in 1 week exactly!

08/25/2008 --- AOS package sent to Chicago via Fedex overnight priority mail. Fingers crossed now!

08/26/2008 -- AOS Package received in Chicago, signed for by A.Smith (1 day before my VWP expires!)

09/02/2008 -- Checks cashed!!

09/03/2008 -- NOA1 received for I-485, I-130 and I-765.

09/05/2008 -- Case is shown online as pending!!

09/08/2008 -- Biometrics appointment letter received for September 23rd!! (For both I-485 and I-765)

Just remember one thing, that everyone's lives are not cookie-cutter perfect. If you don't have a lease, then you don't have one. I'm sure the affidavit will surfice - did you make sure it is notarized? If not, I would have her do it again and take her to get it notarized.

Richard,

More people then you realize are in the same situation as you and your wife. You have the evidence from your MIL, ie: the signed affidavit, that you and your wife pay her rent. Just be honest at the interview, but dont offer more then asked :)

Don't worry about it. Although I own my/our house - my wife is not on the title and I have never submitted anything regarding rent/lease/title in any of the processes - we are at Naturalization now - and it never mattered. No one has ever asked us anything regarding the house.

(In our case the title is jointly with my sister (and her house jointly with me) so in case one of us dies the other can dispose of the property without any legal issues. That is the only reason for this arrangement.)

So, just submit other 'proof' like bank accounts, credit cards, insurances etc. Good Luck

There's a case of common sense :)

In real life, it is not always a good idea to have all properties in both spouses names (they are married after all and are entitled to the property barring a pre-nup).

By the end of the interview the adjudicator needs to see that you are truly in a marriage relationship and are in that position because of the relationship and not for ulterior motives, evidence or not, a lot of that is going to come off from your attitude and demeanor towards each other. Good luck, but you will do fine.

I'm sure it won't be a problem - the requirement is to have evidence of a bona fide relationship, not an apartment lease! You have an explanation of your circumstances, and your MIL's letter shows also that she knows about and approves of your marriage, which also shows it is real and you all are a genuine family. It's common sense - you are only young, you're hardly the first to still be living at home at your age! I guess the puppy papers can't hurt, it's one more piece of evidence you are a genuine couple!

no, take whatever you have - i.e. what is asked for on the appointment letter, most importantly originals of the documents you sent
