Hi everybody,

I found this forum while I was looking for some information about the K1 Visa process. It is very helpful so THANKS to all of you.

I got a question regarding the medical examination. I will have my interview at the us embassy in Frankfurt, Germany on the 19th of February 2009. Frankfurt told me that they will send me to the doctor after completing the interview. But I have read before that I could do it earlier to, is that right?? (In the letter from the embassy it says "medical examination: 19-Feb, 00:00).

And now the more important question. Is it true that I am not allowed to immigrate with the K1 earlier than 6 weeks after the medical??? Actually I wanted to immigrate asap. :(

Thanks for your help!!!!

Take a look at the immigration timelines link at the top of the page, the stats may be helpful.

Hey.

I actually have my interview on the 27th. They assigned me an interview early in the morning the same day but I decided to go on Tuesday already. If you have the option you can just go earlier and you don't even need an appointment in Frankfurt.

Do you have a very early interview date? Cause that could the reason why they told you to go after the interview.

I don't think it is true that you have to wait for 6 weeks. I have read so many other timelines, where people flew over shortly after they got their visa. Don't worry about it. It won't be 6 weeks for me either.

Are you all up to date on your vaccinations? Cause at least the HPV one can't be done in Frankfurt!

hope that helps....

good luck to you and keep us updated!!!

Thanks Kiwie and congrats to your interview :),

I will go to the doctor in Frankfurt tomorrow. I have everything but not the HPV. My doctory didn't want to give it to me as I will turn 27 in less than 3 weeks. And I have read on a different forum that a girl got the injection at the medical examination. Did you ask at the doctors?

What happens if I go there tomorrow and don't have HPV?

Hey B&J,

first of all...good luck! And let me know hoe it went cause I'm already nervous!

But I bet you know what I mean ;)

I think you should be fine cause as far as I know the HPV is needed for the AOS later. And by that time you are going to be 27 already, right? But ask them when you are at the medical. And if not you can always get it later and the doctor can fax something to Frankfurt. I have read that people got the HPV at the medical but I called Frankfurt just to be on the save side and they told me that they don't have the "impfstoff" there.

Sorry it took me so long for my report about the medical. I am really sick and have to try to get better till tomorrow to get my HPV and it was my moms birthday (the last with me for maybe some years). :)

Ok, but here is the report:

I left at home Friday morning at 4.45 am to catch my train. I arrived at the doctors office at about 7.25am. I took a cab from the main station to the doctors which was just 8 Euros.

The doctor opened exactly at 7.40am. You go in and get a number at the reception. I was number 2. Then you go upstairs and you get a questionnaire you have to fill out. Just questions about your medical history, if you smoke and what medicine you're taking. The second page will be filled out together with the secretary when you pay your fee (140 Euros exactly). Have your picture, vaccination report, passport and embassy case number ready. You have to put your name on the back of the picture and sign the agreement for the HIV-test.

Then you get you passport, a CD and the HIV-test agreement and with that you go down to the basement. X-rays will be taken as well as blood and you got to pee in a cup...

After a few minutes you get your stuff back and go upstairs again and tell the secretary you're back. Then you got to wait for the doctor. He is checking you lungs again, asks you some questions about surgeries you had or other stuff. Then he tests your eyes and tells you to bring the CD with you on your hand lagguage because they might want to see it at the port of entry. He told me to get the HPV shot and fax the information to him. Then you are ready to go. That's it. It took me almost exactly 1,5 hours. I've been out there just a few minutes before 9am.

I was totally nervous but it is easy going. Now I can laugh about myself that I have been so nervous. :)

I recommend though to be there right when they open. Because after a while there were a lot of people in there as well as whole families which will take a way longer time. So if you don't want to wait too long, be there early.

So I got an appointment to get my HPV tomorrow morning. And now I am sick. I don't know if they give you the shot when you're sick. I actually don't think so. So I am relaxing, drinking tee, take some "meditonsin" :) and talk to my honey, hoping to get better.

Now I am getting nervous about my interview. Do you know the exact amount of stamps you have to bring to the interview? I have read about it in one of those forums but I can't remember anymore and I can't find it on the embassy website. I guess it is something about 4 Euros. I don't have to bring an envelope I guess.

I had an interview already 3 years ago for my J1 and I had to bring an envelope that time too. But I can't remember the stamps anymore.

You see I am totally nervous. :)

I will move to Michigan about 45 minutes north of Detroit. So close to the lakes. :)

Hey I'm glad it all went well....

I'm actually getting my first HPV shot tomorrow :( I'm not really looking forward to it and would much rather skip it.

It really sounds like it's not that big of a deal to go to the doctor. So they normally tell you right then if anything would be wrong. Not that I'm sick or anything...but you know... all that worrying about nothing ;)

I'm planning on going to the medical 2 days before the interview and just hope that it will be enough time for them to forward it to the embassy really quickly!

I looked it up and you have to bring 4,25 Euros in stamps. I'm not sure if it's still accurate but it should be enough for a DinA4 envelope I think.

I'll be praying for your interview on Thursday and hope that you'll get better soon to get that HPV shot. Eat some fresh garlic and drink some ginger tea. That always works well for me. Then take a hot bath and go to bed!!!

Thanks. I am already feeling better.

I guess two days before the interview is enough. It shouldn't take longer than 2 days sending documents within Frankfurt (if so I guess I always had the wrong job and should join the Deutsche Post *g*).

Right, I felt the same as you do. He doesn't really give you any results, but if there would be anything he has to tell you I guess. Isn't that a duty of docs? He can not let you go without letting you know e.g. you're HIV positive that would be pretty irresponsible. So don't worry, you'll be totally fine.

Thanks for praying for my interview I will let you know again how everything was going. And then I'll cross my fingers for you too. :)

Hi Kiwie,

oh I thought you already did it.

Ok, I'm done with the interview and, oh my god, I am so happy. It was really easy and fast, nothing to worry about. Actually I could laugh about myself now that I was so nervous.

You know I did an interview 3 years ago for an internship and I thought this one now had to be way harder, but it is not. That's how it went with mine...

I arrived at the embassy at about 7.30am. After coming down again a little bit I stood in line to get my number. It was so freezing cold. I showed my invitation, passport and the payment confirmation and got my number. Then go through security check. In the embassy I had to wait for about 5 minutes and had to go to counter no. 23. There you give your passport, picture and payment confirmation to the girl. She gives you a sheet telling you how to organize your documents for the next step and you go back to take a seat. I was so nervous that I put my folder on the microphone and that girl got totally pissed "sorry".

I organized my documents and was waiting for the next step (it seemed like hours but it wasn't). Then I had to go to counter no. 21. That guy said "so you want to go to the states to get married? Hm, we'll see what we can do for you". Me "I hope just the best" :). He: "Haha, I can't promise you that". So he made me really nervous again. But I gave my documents to him and he went through my information with me again if everything is correct. I had to put my address on an envelope and glue the stamps (4,25) there. Then he explains the next steps and what you got to do when you are finally in the States. Then go back and take a seat.

So I was waiting for the final step to do the interview with the consul. Actually I thought "now it is going to be the hardest time". But, she was really nice. She asked me if it is fine talking in English. (And I thought "I'll move to the States so it actually HAS to be fine!??") I had to give fingerprints of all my fingers. Then sign I-157 and DS-280 PartII. She asked me how my fiancé and I met, what he is doing in the states and what kind of job I would like to do there. After that she just said, that it seems like I'm allset and everything is in order and they will be able to print the visa now. I will receive it in about a week. And then I was already ready to go.

So I was leaving the embassy 1,5 hours later, smiling over the whole face and could not beleive it. :)

I met my mom outside and we drove back home. I booked my flight for 6th of march and still try to realize it. It went too fast. It seemed like a dream and not reality.

So don't worry about your interview it's just another task you got to do. You'll be totally fine and I can't wait to read about your experience. :)

Enjoy the time with your family.

Did they ask you anything about if you want the visa sent to you or pick it up in person? I'm just wondering cause I need to fly out ASAP cause our wedding date is 3 weeks after the interview. Or did you feel like it's not an option and I couldn't even ask them about it?

Have some wonderful last weeks and keep me updated about the rest of the journey. This forum is a really great place and I'm glad to be able to talk to people who are in the same situation!!!

Thanks. I'm still working on finally realizing it. :dancing:

Yes, you really don't have to worry about it.

Well, it doesn't seem like you have any choice. You get an envelope already saying "Einschreiben". But I would just ask.

Actually they told me I will receive the visa next week. So I would have been able to leave already on the 1st of March. So you should be able to travel about 2 weeks before the wedding.

Ask the guy, but I don't think you can choose any other possibility. I would propse you ask the post office about prices for express delivery. Prepare an envelope (Another DIN A4 envelope has to fit in there) and everything you would need for express delivery and tell him you got everything for that with you. maybe that works. Because they already tell you at the embassy that they are able to print the visa sticker now (at least, when your medical report is already there). So I guess they print it maybe the same or next day and the rest is just delivery.

Give it try and let me know if that worked.
