Give every citizen over 21 $50,000. They will spend it, creating a boost in the economy and a demand for workers in all areas. See how easy it is?

Give everyone $50,000 and it would be equal to the california or Alaska gold rush.

Prices for essentials would skyrocket, inflation, and the jobs created would all be short term.

Leaving a virtual ghost town in its wake with the same fat kats holding an even biiger share of the riches.

Short term hyper inflation with an even great bust.

This would create an even greater problem.

I'm curious what the free market capitalist's answer is to creating job growth? And what to do when there is high unemployment like we have right now?

Read a textbook man.

In the context of the debating over the Stimulus Plan, where everybody seems to have an opinion as to whether it will work or not - I'd like to know those answers from people here who align themselves ideologically to free market capitalism.

If you really want to know free market theory, audit a few Econ classes. You'll learn.

Standards of living by all objective measures (life expectancy, for example) wasn't all that good in the good ol' days.

That is the 1000# gorilla in the room, ain't it? Too many old people, holding on to all the wealth, and not enough young people to pay for their (soon to be our) retirement.

It's an unfortunate byproduct of the general improvement in quality and availability of medical services.

Bingo!

All the old people is unfortunate, but what do you do about it? We've decided, as a society, that there's value in helping people with illnesses live longer and better, that there's value in more mother surviving childbirth, that there's value in more kids living to be 5. Unless we throw those values away.... we'll continue to have tons of old people. Just an unfortunate and undesirable byproduct.

Raise the retirement age to 85. Eliminate the exemption for the one-time sale of your primaary residence. Exempt irrevokable tranfer of real property to children from tax, and treat revokable trusts as income.

None of those proposals lowers the population of old people.

Not directly, but it does stop the tranfer of wealth to them. When 65 was the retirement age, then 68 was the life expectancy. Now that people are expected to live to 88, let's adjust the age when they get taxpayer paid for benefits. If you don't transfer the wealth, then you don't need two people to work in a household for a family of four to survive.

We redefine what old is, and there are fewer old people. Worked for unemployment, didn't it?

Yes, but it does stop the tranfer of wealth to them.

You'll have to disenfranchise them first.

Nah, just keep them in the back bedroom, where they belong. Besides, "free childcare". Works in most of the third world!

But how do you keep them there when they can still go vote? They'll just vote themselves to the front of the bus again.

Close all the County Kitchen Restaurants. Old people will starve. Didn't you learn anything from South Park?
