Anyone want to take a stab at it?

How about a guaranteed living wage for the primary wage earner? Then the wife (or husband) can stay at home with the kids. Better yet, eliminate the welfare state, social security, and medicare. Let the old people be a burden on the kids! They are a big burden now, but with the benefit of the the wealth the old folks acquired over a lifetime, they might manage a little better.

And the indigent you ask? Put the poor house back up on the edge of town, and let charity does what it does anyways!

Health care costs? Give the doc a house near the poor house, paid for by the community, and he can accept payment in chickens and apple pies, like the good old days!

yeah, it is a tough one.

lets say govt and investors are willing to take on huge risks.

they pour money into infrastructure and new technology.

infrastructure provides jobs (directly and indirectly) for a lot of ppl.

new technology will provide seeds for new industries that drive the higher trained population.

or something like that.

also, each person should reset their attitudes and get ready to work hard. starting from the home, to self improvement, and eventually in their new jobs.

Standards of living by all objective measures (life expectancy, for example) wasn't all that good in the good ol' days.

That is the 1000# gorilla in the room, ain't it? Too many old people, holding on to all the wealth, and not enough young people to pay for their (soon to be our) retirement.

Keep the buck here so the IRS can tax the hell out of it. Each country has it's own standard of living, we have a much higher standard than the countries we deal with and will never be able to compete. In particular since we have environmental and safety laws other countries don't have. This ####### started in about 1973 when we opened our doors to Japan, now they own us, but having huge layoffs themselves because they are also going to China.

And since WW II, we became the police department of the world, also kind of expensive.

Can also sit back and put your faith in the hands of those campaign fund seeking guys that owe promises and had the best line of BS to get elected.

It's an unfortunate byproduct of the general improvement in quality and availability of medical services.

Bingo!

All the old people is unfortunate, but what do you do about it? We've decided, as a society, that there's value in helping people with illnesses live longer and better, that there's value in more mother surviving childbirth, that there's value in more kids living to be 5. Unless we throw those values away.... we'll continue to have tons of old people. Just an unfortunate and undesirable byproduct.

Legalize marijuana and end the senseless "War on Drug -

Just the tax alone would be a big benefit for everyone. But something so simple and sure fire way to get us out of the hole, will be shot down from the people who are making profits on prisons and the people who are making a killing on the black market.

We could also beat China at their own game, screw safety and the environment, build one room apartments for families around a plant, we work for 90 cents a day to compete with their buck a day, and bring all those jobs back here.

As long as I get my own cot in the tenement.

Now that would solve the economic crises and the housing bust at the same time.

We solve the problem by lowering the standard of living, is that not what is happening now???
