Calls to USCIS to check on status: Any suggestions ?

I called the 800 number to ask the status of my I 129f K1 petition. My petition was mailed on Aug 15, 2008 and the date of the receipt letter is Aug 19, 2008. The lady was friendly but seemed not to have any reasonable explanation when i asked her how much longer the process will take for approval. She just keep repeating that the applications was about 160 days before processing. I asked her to explain the "as of Nov. 30, 2008" date and "April 15, 2008" dates on the Vermont service center processing times of their web site. The only response she gave was we are always behind in updating the web site and again repeated that my application was about 160 days before any processing. I asked her what about the already 5 months waiting for the application and to verify she is telling me that the application will take about 10 months total? She said yes that is right. She also said she can not see any reason that the application will be denied and that all the application seems to be in order. Can anyone explain to me how to use the web site to get an close account of how much longer the wait is ? Has anyone had similar experience with the operators at USCIS or any advise on what to do now except the heart wrenching waiting without knowing even a close estimate of how long the process will really take ?

The operators at USCIS really don't know any more then we do, they just look up our page and see the same thing we do, "case is received and pending". The guy I talked to had no info either, only to saying "you are still pending, meaning we haven't made a decision yet". Not very helpful! He said, "its looking close" but had no info.

Unfortunately there is no way to know. I have been waiting a long time myself and have talked with many other VJ members who cannot get answers.

You can write your senator and congressman, which I did recently and have not heard anything back.

It is very heart wrenching, you are right. If only they could give us some sort of answer but I have yet to get one myself.

I hope someone has an answer for you, I will be watching. I am in the same lonely boat!

I too caved in this week and called them. I was given an answer very similar to yours, one thing she did say was that my case has been assigned to an officer? I'm not sure at what stage cases are assigned to officers, it gave me a glimmer of hope that maybe soon I will hear something. Its ludicrous that cases filed months after our own are being approved left right and centre yet some apparently sit collecting dust with no reason given as to why

Calling them is like trying to teach a pig to sing. You get frustrated and the pig gets annoyed. Stop it.

You will aggravate yourself and NEVER get a reliable answer. "About 6 months" is the normal response and then they will quote the completely USELESS USCIS timelines. My wife with her green card in her wallet, still has an I-129f listed with USCIS as "received and pending" Their timelines and estimates are specifically sdesigned to discourage you from calling and annoying the pig.
