ITIN - Documents - Passport, how to submit??

I am very confused from reading the instructions on this - It says to submit the passport with the ITIN but does that mean I would literally submit the real passport with the ITIN W7 Document? I cannot imagine this is the case as I may not get it back - however if I do - does it come back in 6-8 weeks?

You attach the form (to the top of the Income Tax forms) and notarized copies of the ID stuff...passport, etc... that's all

What instructions are you referring to? What stage are you at?

Under no circumstances send the ORIGINAL passport. Send a photocopy with the ID page and the part you need to show (ITIN). Not unless there is a unique situation here I haven't heard of. DO NOT send the passport if you mean to the USCIS or the NVC. Or is this DCF?

No, this is for ITIN and thank-you guys - I think I understand

She must go to the Embassy (Tokyo for her) to get a notorized copy of the ID photocopy of her passport.

Then she can send that to me, and I will submit with ITIN paperwork.

The only thing I am confused on is the stimulus package deal, she is not eligilble for that because she does not have a SSN yet? In this case, perhaps I should wait until her visa is granted this year (hopefully May - June timing) to file for my taxes (just file for an extension). This way I will get her portion of the stimulus package too?
