Hello,

I became US Citizen in January, and I want to submit the petition to bring my parents as permanent residents.

My big concern is that I do not know if the embassy (interview) will approved my parents to come to US. because when I left my country I had a J-1 visa and I didnot go back like I supposed to. I overstayed in the states until I met (my husband now), and then I started with all my paperwork...

I read some of the interviews at the embassy, and the officers ussually ask the beneficiaries how the petitioner went to U.S. , i mean what kind of visa ....I don'y know if any of you overstayed here in the states and then when become us citizen , file the petition for their parents....Please let me know if you think I will have problems bringin my parents.

Thank you so muchhhh....

Nancy

Hey Nancy,

Congratulations on becoming a US citizen. You now have the exact same rights as everyone who was born here or naturalized as a USC.

You should have no problem filing for your parents. You are a USC eligible to petition for your parents. There is no legal grounds to deny your rights to petition for your parents based on your overstay.

Good luck.

I had same story 12 years ago

My previous Country asked my Mother to do all paperwork what I didn't.

I came to US as a tourist and never come back.

By the way she got her GC very fast.
