More and more lately I am reading posts stating how stupid the USCIS is or how stupid the US government is. :ranting: Is this really all necessary? Ok, I will be the first to admit, I hate going to the social security office, the DMV, dealing with the USCIS or any government agency for that matter. BUT, compared to the rampent corruption of some country's governments, is it really that bad here? Can you deal with a few mistakes or the bad attitude of the lady at the SS office? We live in a free country where, yes, you can speak your mind and say what you feel. But again, I ask , given the freedoms that we all have and everyone who has immigrated here now have....is it really necessary? If you make a mistake on your visa petition or get an RFE, if it's your fault, its YOUR fault. Be an adult and correct it. Of the millions of petitions and applications they deal with each year (and growing), are they really that bad? Embrace America and all it's freedoms and most of all , TAKE IT EASY! :dancing: Just my thoughts. What do the VJ members think??

Strictly constructive criticism, I do use this board as a medium for thoughts to perfect a letter to my governor, senator or congressman. Comparing this country with others that are worse does not make our country better. What I really need practice on is projecting my feelings in 500 characters or less. Remember the 1st amendment.

I am not knocking your 1st amendment rights. I am only saying that if you make a mistake and its your fault. Take a moment and think of what the next step is instead of thinking that someone else is at fault and ranting and raving about how this world is so unfair and the US government is so bad. Did you notice that it's usually someone who the US government has allowed to come in to this country and practice those said , 1st amendment rights that complains the most? Am I generalizing....maybe, but it sure seem to be true.

Because we are free to bash the Govt all we want. The Govt is not America, we are.

quote of the day

Who elected that government?? Those in government are not US citizens, not Americans? Just a thought...

Never got an RFE but USCIS and Homeland Security are Keystone cops. They scheduled the biometrics on near a holiday, Dec. 24, and postponed it. The Social Security office still hasn't mailed a card after 5 months of waiting. There's no incentive for these slugs to do a better job because they get paid the same either way. In fairness, it's the lawmakers who made the laws so we voted for this mess.
Actually, Keystone Kops are funny but generally harmless--which is more than I can say for USCIS or its predecessor USINS.

You should see a DMV office in Australia.

Do the toilets all swirl the wrong way?

Nah, our toilets don't swirl.

I did notice the Aussie style toilets are being sold at Sams Club.

The toilets don't swirl, that suck

As an employee of a government agency, the regs and rules can sometimes contradict one another and it can be difficult to get a straight answer.

It's strange you can walk into any store, and hear thank you for shopping here, keep your receipt please if you are not happy so you can return that item.

Do you hear that from any government office? That city clerk gets paid with my money, least a thank you when I give her a huge check for my property taxes. Rather you get, if you don't pay your taxes on time we will fine you or evict you and sell your property at an auction. As a natural born citizen of the USA, a veteran of a foreign war, was treated like a criminal at the USCIS, why is that? We are guilty until we prove ourselves innocent, but can live with that.

What I can't live with is when you properly fill out your application, send in all the requested evidence, and don't hear a damn thing, call and say look up your case status that is not even updated. The I-751 was a panic, misplaced the application with that move, no consequence for the USCIS, wife would lose her job and daughter could not attend school. Certainly could not renew their driver's license.

If they want more fees, will pay more fees, but if they are planning on using your old fingerprints, can they at least send you a note to that effect? Wife's N-400 after she passed the interview file was misplaced, hung up again.

Yes, met some nice people at the USCIS, it's the bad ones you tend to remember. But in general in dealing with any US government agency, you get threats, that isn't right. Should be getting help if you have a problem, especially with the EPA. Since 1972, we have a ton of new government agencies, the total is 1,525 if you didn't know that. Little Gestopols. Congressman has not even heard of most of them.

So whose fault is it when they make a mistake or give poor service, or even lack of service? If people don't complain, things will not improve. The reason America is so great compared to other countries is because we don't put up with s****. We complain, complain, complain until things change and get better. It's a good thing. :star:

Yes ,of course, complain. No problem with that. But the complaining has to have some action to back it up at some point. Some come here just to throw blame and complain and then do nothing else about it. You do have a valid point though. Thanks for your comments!

True, some come to throw blame and complain and nothing else. But the reason we are all here, besides asking for advice, is for moral support. Sometimes just venting is good for the soul. Especially when you are stressed out from not having seen your husband or wife (or fiance) in forever. That's enough stress to make anybody crazy without USCIS involved! lol It also feels good to know that others are going through the same hell that you are. You know what they say...misery loves company!

Well I would say our government here in the US is just as corrupt as any other government in the world. They cater to big business and pretty much screw the people. Just look at all the bail out money they are giving to the big companies...and it's us the tax payers paying for that and we will probably just get a raise in taxes.

That ombudsman thing on the USCIS is a very bad joke, wife's conditional card was running out, and in the processing dates, Nebraska went from January of 2008 to July of 2006. Wrote to them for help, just said, those are the official processing dates and you as well as we have to go by them.

At the advice my our attorney, made complete duplicates of everything with the I-751, sent it overnight with a return receipt that would stand up in a court of law and sent that off exactly 90 days before her 2nd anniversary. They can say you never send in the I-751 and deport you, but at least with that, you cannot get deported. But still can't work nor travel and certainly cannot get a driver's license renewed. And as a LPR, still need that foreign passport with a valid green card if your mother gets sick.

You do not mutually agree on a appointment, if even a minute late, can be rejected even though you may have to wait hours before being called in. If you come too early, told to wait outside in the cold. If you have a huge stack of forms with just one minor error, the entire set will be rejected, you lose your fees and have to start all over again. If you supply all the requested evidence they ask for, can even ask for something that is not on that list to cause major delays in your application.

Is any of the above false?

Ha, with many private organizations where forms have to be filled out, just go in, and have an expert ask you those questions and even explain them to you, and they do all the typing letting you check over everything before you sign it. Would be nice if the USCIS was the same way and in many cases, have to contact an attorney to learn what in the hell they are asking for, can't even write the damned forms in English.

The worst practical joke by USINS (and later USCIS) was their "Ask Immigration" line where (supposedly) one could ask an immigration officer questions about the case--I actually remember calling then and getting a rather dismissive response (as the chop at the other end just couldn't comprehend what troubles a misfiling of categories would cause--as in near-complete wipeout of ability to make longterm plans, such as marriage-search). Not at all improved under USCIS with toll-free number (aptly labelled on VJ as "mis-info line").
