Successful inteview.

My husband and I got there 10:15am my appointment was 10:40am. At 10:35 the officer called me to his office and ask to raise my right hands and start to ask me the 6 questions:

1. How many amendments does the constitution have?

2. Who makes federal law?

3. What is the highest court in the United States?

4. What group of people sold as slaves?

5. Why did the colonists fight British?

6. Who is the vice president of the United states?

Then reading portion he gave me a paper and ask me to read (Who can vote). The writing portion he told me to write ( Citizens of the United states). After that he told me congratulations you passed your test....And then he went over one by one with the questions in the n-400 form. answer is yes or no...One of the question was if somebody ask you if you are a US citizens right now or permanent resident what would you say...I smiled and kinda confused but i remember i read one post here in VJ that after the oath a person will become a citizen...So the officer told me you are not a USC now it will be after the oath... He asked me paper works to support our marriage since I am applying based on 3 years marriage to a USC. I gave him a copy of our bank account statement, electric bill, car insurance, and documents when we bought our house he also asked for a copy of our 2008 tax return he didnt asked 2006 and 2007. Then he told me i will get some documents in the mail and wait for 10-15mins because somebody will double check my papers. After 5 mins. somebody called me and gave me an appointment letter for my oath it will be on june 1 Monday 8am. she told me that i will not yet a USC now it will start after my oath. we left the building at 11am.

I just want to thank all VJers for all the information and step by step guiding process from the start till the end. It help us alot. For anyone who will be having an interview dont be nervous just study the test booklet and you'll be fine..

Hi,

yes, the interview was successful. This is my experience:

First -- I applied on basis of 5 years permanent residency. So even though I am married to a (now) US Citizen, I applied on my own account. I also didn't have any "negative" answers on any of the questions regarding arrests, paying taxes, etc. etc. etc. Your mileage may vary.

I arrived about on-time; I parked in the Haymarket parking lot (about as expensive as risking a parking ticket... so I'm not sure I got a good deal out of it.)

At the main reception hall, the receptionist sent me to the windows on the right where I turned in my interview letter. Cellphone use is allowed as long as you "be courteous to other people". After about 20 minutes waiting, I was called by someone and led to one of the cubicles that are around the walls of the waiting area for my test.

The civics test was taken verbally using a pre-printed questionnaire using exactly the language from the booklet. No surprises there. The interviewer wrote down the answers to all my questions and checked them as "passed" as she went along. At one point, she asked me to stop answering the question (I was giving her alternative answers) -- she had to write down all I said, and my answer was "already good enough" :). After 6 questions, she declared me "passed" and asked me to read a single line -- something like "The senate meets in the senate building". I also had to write a sentence: "There are 100 senators.". She gave me a piece of paper saying I passed, and told me to go to another room and wait until I got called.

I waited in the other room for about 45 minutes, and I was called by someone that presented himself as my "adjucation officer". He led me through a door and corridor to another cubicle. There he put me under oath. I needed to present my passport and greencard here. He basically went over the form, asked the pertinent questions again. Specifically, he wanted to know:

- if I had travelled since my application (I had, he asked where & for how long, we figured out that it was 3 weeks from my passport entry stamps)

- if I had any changes in my marital status, children, arrests or any other fine or ticket, etc. (no)

- he went over the list of questions regarding moral behavior again (prostitution, drug use, alcohol problems, etc.) (no, no, no, no...)

- he asked me if I had paid my taxes in time. (yes)

- he asked me if I would be willing to serve the country when needed by law (yes)

- he asked me if I was willing to take the unabbreviated citizenship oath (yes)

All the while, he basically marked / crossed out things on my original application form

After this, he congratulated me and told me he would "recommend me for approval". He told me to go back to the waiting room until the lady at the reception desk would call me to sign my photos and schedule an oath date.

After another 15 minutes, I was called by the receptionist, signed my pictures, and got a swear-in ceremony date of May 28th. I arrived at 1:00PM, and left about 3:15 PM.

Had interview 5/11/09. Showed up to the Boston office 5 minutes before appointment time, waited a couple minutes, had 5 quick civics questions, waited 10 minutes, had a quick interview that just went over all the check-box questions from the N-400, waited 15 minutes, signed my photos and left.

Had interview 5/11/09. Showed up to the Boston office 5 minutes before appointment time, waited a couple minutes, had 5 quick civics questions, waited 10 minutes, had a quick interview that just went over all the check-box questions from the N-400, waited 15 minutes, signed my photos and left.

It's my turn now to write my succesful interview experienced.

My appointment time is 1:30PM and we got there by 1:20PM. I was with my husband and my2 kids, I asked the guard if they can accompany me inside but the guard said that only the applicant is allowed, they can wait by the waiting room area but since they will have oath ceremony @ 2PM for the applicant from the neighbor island they have to leave too, so my husband decided to just stay outside and bring our kids to the nearest shopping area.

As i showed my appointment letter the guard instructed me to wait in the line and wait for my turn to be called. After few seconds i was called by the lady infornt asking for my appointment letter and she gave me number and asked me to go inside the waiting room. There were 6 people waiting already and @ 2PM my number was called. The lady officer greeted me politely and asked me to raise my hand.

She go over my application, She asked for my passport and green card but she didn't look at my passport. Also i brought my recent 2008 Tax transript since when i filed my application back then in February our tax wasn't finished yet, and a lot of supporting documents like bills, bank certificate, vehicle registration that i didn't included when i submitted my application, just in case the immigration officer asked for it but not even one she asked for any documents, oh well... better prepared than to be sorry. Then she asked if i wanted to change my name and i said NO then asked me to sign the paper exactly the way my name without abbreviation as well as to sign my picture, Then she start asking how did i get my greencard, if i have kids and asked the YES and NO portion of the application. Then she asked me to read "HOW MANY SENATORS DO WE HAVE" and have to write "WE HAVE 100 SENATORS". Then asked the following civic questions exactly what's in the reviewer.

1. There are four amendments to the Constitution about who can vote. Describe one of them?

2. During the Cold War, what was the main concern of the United States?

3. What is one reason colonists came to America?

4. What is one right or freedom from the First Amendment?

5. Who is in charge of the executive branch?

6. If the President can no longer serve, who becomes President?

She wrote down my answer in the paper next to every question. Then she said CONGRATULATIONS you pass your interview. I asked when can i have my oath ceremony since we are planning to have a trip on September but she said they will mail the date and time within 2 - 3 weeks i should be getting my schedule. Oh well, have to wait again...... By 2:20PM I was done. Over all it went smooth. I thank this site for all the help, it keeps me prepared.

I don't have the details yet, but passed the interview. Oath was a few hours after the exam. Seems like it depends on local office. Some do it the same day and others do it at a later day.

03/10/09 - Received Fingerprint Notification. Appointment on 03/20/09.

03/20/09 - Fingerprint taken.

04/06/09 - Received Interview Letter. Appointment date on 05/21/09.

05/21/09 - Passed, but missing Marriage Certificate, Sent Express Mail same day.

05/22/09 - They received my Express Mail by 8:58am.

06/16/09 - Went to local field office to check my case, Oath day on 07/17/09.
