So is pointless just stick to the lowfat diet then and dont take the pills...dont think of me when u get an accident...Sry Richard for the mental picture...but just wanted to make my point

The problem i have with sticking to a lowfat diet is just that...sticking to it. I've got almost no willpower at all. Guess that's what happens when your fat like me.......forget I said that...just me being me...

I think thought with the Alli it will FORCE me to eat right so I dont have those issues. Any suggestions on something healthier?

Liz....u dont need a pill to force u to eat right...just push urself....I honestly dont know why it is FDA approved it does more wrong than right...I have tons of patients coming to my office talking about their little accidents....of course we all wanna believe there is a "magic pill" that makes u loose weight...but I dont believe in any of them...I did see a friend of mine lose mad weight taking Hydroxicut. And look now they are recalling it....so iam the person that believes losing weight is about will power...and committment...at least for me....I dont eat after 5 and do spinning every single day, but Sundays I rest...

Just my 2 cents... and free advice as we all know is worth what you pay for it... which is NOTHING :)

My suggestion since willpower is lacking is this:

1) set 'obtainable and realistic' short term... goals (not easy to reach but not out of the question for you personally) literally set daily goals. e.g. today I will walk 2 miles, today I will... and ... etc

2) set 'obtainable and realistic' mid-term goals (this week lose 2 pounds, walk 5 miles etc. etc.)

3) set your long-term goals (what you want to weigh, what size you want to wear, etc)

I have a very silly question, but I am going to ask it anyway... have you ever done one of those mazes that you start at the outside and try to find your way to the middle? If you have done these in your past (and most of us have) do you do them from the outside in or the inside out? I ask this because, personally I do them from the inside out and find it much, much easier to do them this way. not that I do them very often... I have come to the conclusion that it has to do with the thought process we personally use. In this same vein or is it vane? I personally plan life backwards also... I set my long-term goal and then work backwards from there... I find it much much easier and can visualize the whole process much easier also. So, maybe, if you are like me... IF you can think... ok, I want to lose X number of pounds and X inches in X time (again realistically) then you can break that down to monthly, weekly, daily kind of thing...

Does this make any sense?

Also, don't forget when you set your goals also set a reward for yourself... and not necessarily a triple chocolate sunday... :)

And if all else fails, I vote Lee and D_n_M to be your personal trainer and conscience :)

I am ex-military and a martial artist... I would not be the right one to train as I would be very firm and strict. She needs a softer touch to motivate her due to a challenged will.

Ok what about her SO in a thong running and she needs to run after him? j.k

I do know its also harder to lose weight once u have kids...not that I have any..

From what i understand and have experienced there is a window that will allow a woman to lose weight quickly after giving birth. As soon as she is healthy enough to start working out, her metabolism is working fast at that time, she can lose quickly and easily. But that is not a rule of thumb for all woman. The body chemistry and a good recovery plays an important factor.

Any man in a thong is just wrong! IMHO... but I'm a guy! :o

I think a really big aspect of weight loss is not to stress about it! Stress can make it harder to get the weight off and will make you even gain weight. I guess stressing about this visa process isn't helpful either :P. (go go vsc!)

Eating healthier and exercising become a habit, and it's not a habit that is instantly adapted into the week. Once you go for a bit on the path though, it does get easier and then exercising becomes easier as little bits of weight drop off!

Swimming is a great way to go if you have knee problems, it's very low resistance and gets your whole body moving. You can't really do 100 sit ups and no other exercises and expect to have an 8 pack :P. It'll be hiding!

I'm back to my thin lanky self after going up to 235 lbs. I'm 5'11 so it supposedly "carried well". I sure can tell how well I carried the weight in some older pics..lol. Now I'm about 155 lbs and hopefully staying here! (recently found out I'm wheat intolerant though...ergh)

Good luck!

 Only on this thread can we go from discussing weight loss to men in thongs..LOL!!

Maire - Thanks for the words of wisdom....I am going to take your advice and wait a bit longer with the pills.

D_n_M - I actually think having you as my personal trainer would do me wonders. I need someone to scream at me and make my butt get motivated. I don't have much will power but I love a challenge. As for Jenny Craig and Slim Fast...I've used slim fast and not seen any results. I was also on Weight Watchers with pretty much the same thing. I need...and will!...to exercise! I've had some set backs mostly with the knee surgery but I'm getting back on track.

Richard - I am like you...I start in the middle and work my way out...lol!

Thanks everyone for all your input and advise. It's necessary sometimes to get an outside perspective of things to see them clearly. I did see some results lately that frankly I'm shocked with.....between the first appointment on April 30th with my doctor about this whole Asthma thing and yesterday I've lost 6 pounds. Not sure how since I've not been exercising. The one thing I have done and been able to stick to...I completely cut out all soda's...even diet ones. I now only drink lemon water or tea (unsweet or sweetened with artifical sweetner). That is a HUGE accomplishment for me..lol!

Hugs, Liz

A strong will can be masked with laziness. If you can achive good results in a challenge that would indicate a good will. If you give up easily when things are tough and can not find your own motivation thats laziness. You need to find the place where you create your own challenge. You will see results in many things.
