I have a really hard time with rings. I really want to get my SO a beautiful ring, but I want to bang my head against the wall. There is nothing available besides "rock placed on a ring" type of design (if you can call it design at all). I want something beautiful and unique. Might have to end up looking for one when I am in Moscow. Same goes for rings... I've looked through hundreds of pages - nothing that would make me want them.

Unfortunately they do not design rings from the man's point of view, but the American Woman's point of view :) a rock on a ring... and the bigger the rock the better.... :)

That's exactly why I am against engagement rings.

Have you checked out Etsy? There are tons of creative people making unique jewelry.

And this guy here makes really beautiful rings, too, and you can also order them long-distance: http://www.surprisegold.com/ Not cheap, but more economical than a big rock, and MUCH more unique... I personally am in love with his work.

Much less expensive, and also very unique are the rings from this site: http://www.turtlelovecommittee.com/

There's many options besides the "classic" American engagement ring!

I love the second link. I just forwarded it to Oksana. That is what I am looking for. I despise wearing jewelery in general so I said I wanted to pick something that is low key and looks comfortable. Thank you for the links. I have been driving myself crazy for something like that.

I'm glad you like them! We couldn't order from them because they don't seem to make my size (I have VERY small fingers, less than 4.5 -- although I didn't check if they do custom sizes as well). But I do think the Turtle Love Committee rings rock!

I have no earthly idea what Oksana's size is. She is little, but not extremely so we should be ok. Pending her approval of course. It's just not that big of a deal to me. If you know of any other sites like that I wouldn't hate you for posting them here.

Well, for me, I got her a nice "pre-engagement" ring....to be honest, I don't want to put an expensive ring on her finger when she is in the Philippines...I worry about her safety...

So I plan on getting her one when she gets here - because I want it for her, she is more practical and would not care if I spent $1 or $10k, but I want something nice on that represents how much I love her. I also want to take her shopping to gauge what she wants - I like simple - she is so small (ring size 3.5! or so) that something too fancy will look awful, but want to see some things on her finger...

As for being a emotionally retarded, that is definitely me....does that mean I am "manpretty" too?

Sort of related: if I am going to be with her for the interview time, can I bring my papers over instead of sending them?

Thanks.

Igor, I'm sorry they don't have it yet....but they are working through Feb still...there isn't much you can do but wait...I hope tomorrow is your day, but if not, it should be soon. You can also head to your congressmen's site and start getting ready to ask for their help (at 6 months). Hopefully you just get your approval SOON!

Also you should be able to bring the papers. But if your fiancee needs to send them in to the embassy prior to the interview, it might be better to just get them to her early....

Dave

Hello everyone!

I kind of skimmed through the previous post but..

Congrats dcrespo314!!!

..aand for the ring! He wanted me to look with him so he knew I would like the engagement ring I was to wear everyday. It cost £60 or so from the UK and it means so much to me because he has no money to his own name as he just got out of University and is now serving the wonderful Greek Army.

I had to re-email the US Embassy about his Army Status papers... I'm dreading that the papers will end up expiring...

Does anyone know what will happen if we don't have an interview of somesort set up before the NOA2 expires? Or anything of that??

01/23/2009 ----------Leave Athens and my Honey for the processes to begin

02/10/2009 ----------Beginning of Greek Military Obligations for 11 months

03/21/2009 ----------Stationed to Rhodes

07/16/2009-----------Meeting in Spain for 6 days!

08/27/2009-----------Stationed to Nevrokopi

01/10/2010-----------Gets OUT of the Army!

02/16/2010-----------Interview!

02/24/2010-----------Lampros arrives in WA!!!

He didn't just want me long, he wanted me a little longer than forever... :3

I have read that they automatically extend it... but I wouldnt count on it personally... so a call to the embassy is in order.

DAVE!!!

OMG a 3.5? She is tiny... You sure she is old enough :P

Yup....turns 25 in a month....I've seen her birth cert and ID. In fact I didn't believe she was old enough to be serving me beer when I met her! I asked her if she was really old enough to be doing that (she was 22).

Yes Richard, a call to the embassy again and I forwarded the email I had sent before inquiring about the info I need. Last time I called it was a giant mess of "oh let me transfer you" and then ended with voice mails twice.

Oh I won't give up but now I am getting annoyed at dealing with "Americans" lol. I told a guy that the immigration line wasn't working and he said "Oh ok, I'll transfer you then" AHhh! I'm going to call and try pushing 2 for Greek and see how far I can get myself... hehe.
