My So, I would kind of consider her a simple country gal of very modest means.... very down to earth and family oriented. With all that said... She found many things strange... Strange may be a bit strong... but for example... School buses... In Poland, by-in-large, children either walk to school or take public transport. We go to school here from like 8 am to 3:30 pm and her children have a rotating schedule but generally only 4 hours a day or so.... The grocery store I shop at is huge in comparison to hers (although they do have a hypermarket where she lives now). The fact that here in Atlanta our highways have 6 to 8 lanes in each direction and there they might have 1 1/2 in each. She also had some silly questions... things like... "is it true that in America you have cemeteries for your pets?" and "Why do you only have license plates on the backs of your cars?" I am making light of these since I find these questions cute... I don't think there will be TOO much culture shock but I have had to step back and think about ALL the things I take for granted here that she will just have to learn about over time.

Living in the UK for 7 years should make Lampros much more knowledgeable on things.

I know for a fact, that all the USCIS processing is pretty much moving around big folders of paperwork. It sounds like what they need to do is get the paperwork and then send a copy of the NOA2 from it. It probably will not take 30 days, maybe a week to get it in the mail to you. This is of course, just my speculation.

The fact that it is in a storage facility is pretty much expected. The VSC approved it and (thought) they were done with it. If the NOA2 had been correctly delivered, the file would not be needed for many months, and then would be needed by a different office (the local field office, not the VSC) when they process the AOS. So until then, they need the space for all the other pending cases, so they put it in storage.

Ok, that does make sense. I was just thinking they had "accidentally" sent it off and "oops" his case was buried.

Richard- I had told him about school buses when I was living with him in Greece. I said their big and yellow and carry 100 children. Most kids walk to their schools in Greece also, as they aren't 40 miles away, but maybe 1 at most. Or public transportation. I think a big deal for him will be when we move to Seattle and we'll be in the city with giant sky scapers, monorails and mass traffic. The tallest buildings in Greece are about 10 stories (maybe lower, higher) but because of the earthquakes.

We should make a movie out of this, first time you emailed you got a response regarding a I-130 petition that you have never filed, and now this... I'm sorry but I'm laughing out loud lol

I think you should do an info pass, which is making an appointment with one of the local offices of USCIS around your area to discuss this matter. Direct feedback is better than nothing

Well, my file still is not at NVC, so I called the USCIS. After negotiating the maze of options, I somehow managed to actually get to the VSC and get "Officer Norma" at the VSC on the phone. Yes, as in a real live person at the Vermont Service Center!!!

I was very polite and apologized if I was being pushy and aggressive, but I wanted to know if they could track where my file was in it's journey to the NVC. She took my receipt number, and after a bit of typing and associated pauses, she said that it had not been mailed yet, but had arrived in the mailroom today. She was friendly and professional enough and did not get too upset with my calling, but I always think that trying to disarm folks first with some extra politeness helps.

So with luck, it should be in the mail today or tomorrow and arrive (finally) at the NVC early next week. I hope that the others waiting to for them to mail are also in the mail room :)

I am still in shock, that somehow I got transferred to the VSC and not the customer (lack of) service line! Not sure how that happened.
