D_n_M left about 5 years ago I think. What part of VA are you from? I don't mind VA so much - there are some nice parts. I am NOT a big fan of DC though - too much politics and ####### like it. The monuments and museums are great though...

I'm living in Stafford, and I HATE the traffic, the populated suburban housing and the over-worked-traffic-ridden-stressed people I have to smile to everyday at work! (cashier at a grocery store) I think it's worse to think about because I'm not from here and most of my relatives/family is on the West Coast.

It is a waste of time! But, they get paid to provide "customer service"...I find it amusing to call them and then point out how they do not do anything useful...no reliable information, no real help, no service to speak of. I also have said to them when I called "I know you have a script you are supposed to use, so why don't you just read it off (since I know it is your "metric" for performance)". Let them ramble on and then ask them if they can actually do *ANYTHING* to provide real information or service and hear them say no, not that we don't already know...

But be careful if they suggest an Infopass...I found out that is a waste of time too...

I left NOVA because of the traffic. I used to live in Sterling and work in DC. Once I lived in Alexandria and worked in Fairfax. The traffic sucks and I was just sick of the area. I moved to Tampa and this place is Laid back and the traffic is just "congested" not bumper to bumper stand-still for ever! The mixing bowl is something these folks here in Tampa would never experience! I love Florida!

I did it to. i called yesterday and asked if they had my file and they told me no but at least u get a live person. but i will call again in a few days if i don't get anything in the mail. theya re very helpful and explain to you what is needed to be done.

No offense meant, but I would not overdo using the NVC to ask when the USCIS is the problem. I would hate to see them get so many calls about if a USCIS approval is in that they stop helping us after we get done the NOA2!

I firmly believe that the USCIS has perhaps the worst process infrastructure of any US government org...

Oh the notorious "Mixing Bowl"... I was taking a class in Springfield, right before that mess of roads, thankfully. I'm a laid back person also and all the rush in this area gets me frustrated. My honey and I will go out to Oregon or Washington when he gets here :D.

I hear ya on the traffic! and the I-95 corridor is hell! I moved where traffic would not be so bad...only about 10 miles and on a really bad day it takes about 40 minutes in the worst rush hour... Usually only about 20-25 (no highways...so the lights slow things). I *hate* traffic. And after living and traveling by foot, train, boat, bus, tuk-tuk, jeepney, etc for 3 years - I have even less patience for it.

But if you get out to the Shenandoah valley it is a lot more mellow... still, I would rather be on the beach with no need to ever get in a car and commute...

I can't be with out a laptop or PC. Actually she won't be able to. Her entire family is staying behind and she will need a way to speak to them. But as my brother says: "In-laws that are leaving overseas is a great deal".

I'm starting a new post because I massacred that with like 10 going on at once.

Roman, I hear you on that one. We'll use skype still to call his parents, and ok...we're both computer/internet junkies. His degrees are in IT, so maybe a broken laptop won't be so fun to come home to .

TRAFFIC- is the curse of the sooouuul. I miss living in a smaller area where I could walk to the store or ..anywhere basically. Maybe even a bike ride if it was 2+ miles. Here I live in a sub division which is 3+ miles just to get OUT of. In my area, there are not even any crosswalks or sidewalks and no public transportation, period. I just hope my little car can last a bit, it's quite "sick".
