I know some of Len's work colleagues were just mystified why people from UK (or even Canada) were amde to go thru MONTHS of forms and checks. They can understand an FBI check, but as these don't usually take long in and of themselves, could not fathom why we were still waiting in JUNE after we applied in DECEMBER last year.

As for the AOS part, a good pal of mine (USC) just asked 'well why can't you just get the SSN and stuff right away after you marry? You did all the checks and things already for the visa and they were happy to let you in...'

And I had no real answer for him.

very good article. i'm more than happy to tell people about the ordeal nessa and i are going thru, along with all of the money required for such. it opens everyone's eyes.

Thank you Montanaman and Alison for giving our plight more publicity. The USCIS and DHS refuse to shoulder responsibility for thier horrendous mismangemet. There are no consequences for them, only for us. The more light that is shone on this broken process, and incompetant USCIS and DHS management, the better. I am sure the folks there working in the trenches are working as hard as they can- but the management must be held accountable.

Those of us trying to follow the laws are the most punished. The illegals are fat and happy and smiling. Change will only occur as pressure is applied to USCIS and DHS driven by public outcry.

Alex, I don't have the form in front of me (& haven't read the blog report yet!) but if your fiance was a member of the CP in his teens, he should look more closely into how to answer that question.

Users with Chinese fiances would be a good place to look. Nothing worse than putting an untruth (aka lie) on a USCIS form...
