I believe a new child needs an ITIN if they do not have their American citizenship done yet however I do not see how I would list them on the W7.

I say this because I want to claim my child as a dependent but have not information for them to enter as far as a Tax ID or a Social Security Number.

Any tips?

Normally, the person who is a US citizen should notify the consulate regarding the child birth. The child birth is automatically receiving a US citizen.

Upon the notification, if one parent is not a US citizen, the consulate will send the parents to perform a DNA testing. The result will be sent back to the embassy.

By that time, the consulate can also apply the SSN to the newborn, as well as the US passport. Do not use the ITIN because the new born will be eligible to receive the money from the stimulus package, if he/she has the SSN.
