Why the heck would you reduce or cut any of the above? :bonk:

Oh I forgot tax cuts can only help the economy. Somehow cutting corporate taxes is going to magically stimulate the economy.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

These are long term investments. We need somewhere to house criminals. Distance education is a must for those in rural areas. Money for title one schools will help get the poor out of the ghetto and is a step towards switching them from feeding off welfare to paying into the system. In the future these skilled professionals will pay into the system rather than live off it.

What else got cut?

Provisions that would have mandated E-Verify for employers that get stimulus money.

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

I suppose that works if you are actually building prisons, but $300 million probably builds one or two.

Using the title 1 issue for stimulus is really just a way to try to sneak in something that is part of his social agenda. The stimulus package is supposed to "jolt" the economy quickly with "shovel ready" jobs. This is not accomplished with things like that.

Hey coming from a welfare state I hated and loathed paying tax and the ease of welfare access. But now that I have seen the other extreme, I have to say that providing people with basic welfare so they can get on their feet is the key and it does work. Proof of that is Canada and Australia who have not had one bank failure. Who to this day are doing very well and much better than the average American. Sure there will be people who abuse the system but there will be more people who use this opportunity to improve and further their life. People who will ultimately give back to society and pay into the system rather than live off it. Some will say give them nothing, sure thing. Unfortunately you will have to spend 5 times the money in law enforcement and prisons. Either way you will spend money. The only difference is that in the first scenario it is a win win for all.

I would rather invest in an individual so they become good, honest, caring, educated and skilled tax payers who feed into the system rather than leave them poor living off the system. Social capitalism is the key and is successfully implemented in the nations who use it.
